They reach 7 games because the teams are very balance and very competitive. This is the proof that the PBA is very much more exciting than the PBA in the past. When players like Mark Yee, Willie Miller, James Yap, Helterbrand, Caguioa are playing they really are very exciting to watch, they are like NBA players.

My favorite PBA team is San Miguel because I like to drink beer.

My girlfriend's favorite PBA team is Purefoods because she likes to eat hotdog.

2007–08 Season
Philippine Cup - Sta. Lucia beat Purefoods 4–3
Fiesta Cup - Barangay Ginebra beat Air21 4–3

2008–09 Seasoon
Philippine Cup - Talk 'N Text beat Alaska 4–3
Fiesta Cup - San Miguel beat Barangay Ginebra 4–3

as you can see, the last 5 championships ended in seven games.[/QUOTE]

This is what I'm talking about.. This is the Barrios era.. Maybe the PBA Board is doing something for the games to reach game 7.. Watching these games, you will see some players not scoring and imports not even moving..

I watched Game 7 of TnT Alaska and Game 5 of BGK-SMB.. During these times, Araneta is filled but not full.. These are also the time where the PBA gets the highest ticket sales.. So maybe that's why they all reached game 7 when Barrios came

That's why I thought that the BGK-Air 21 reached only 6 is because Ginebra was invincible then winning 12 straight (I think) before reaching the Finals.. Air 21 is strong but Ginebra was a team possessed that conference..

I'm just suspecting.. But the NBA also does it.. Read somewhere that the SAC-LAL during the 2002? playoffs game 6 was poorly officiated to let the Lakers win and reach game 7.. Eventually, the Lakers won in 7..

Great win by Rain or Shine earlier today over Coke. TNT and Ginebra currently slugging it out (and a good one despite Helterbrand's absence)

Next up for PBA: Pure Asian imports

11/27/2009

Barring any obstacle, the Board of Governors of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) may bring in top Asian players as imports for the Fiesta Cup.

The board’s would-be move is apparently a reaction to the fledgling Asean Basketball League (ABL) where the Philippine Patriots, co-owned by Mikee Romero and Tonyboy Cojuangco, are playing.

League commissioner Sonny Barrios, however, said the board has unanimously agreed that all imports for league’s season-ending conference shall come from Fiba Asia countries only, sort of giving PBA fans a new flavor in its more than 30 years of existence.

If feasible, Barrios said a height limit of 6-foot 8 will be set for all candidates.

“The board gave us one month to study if the proposal is feasible or not,” said Barrios, adding naturalized players are not qualified.

Should the project push through, among the possible candidates are Lebanon’s Fadi El-Khatib, Korea’s Lee Kyu Sup and Iran’s Mohhamad Samad Nikkah.

If players won’t be available due to their international commitments, Barrios said teams will resort to “open” recruitment with a height limit of 6-6.

The Fiesta Conference is tentatively set to start on March 21, 2010.

During their regular meeting held yesterday at the PBA Headquarters in Libis, Quezon City, the board also decided to cancel the games scheduled for Dec. 27 and 29 which means elimination round of the 2009-2010 KFC-PBA Philippine Cup will extend up to Jan. 22.

Meanwhile, Burger King gets to test Talk ‘N Text at 5 p.m. today when they meet at the Ynares Center for the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.

“We’ve worked hard this week. We expect to play a good game against TNT,” said King Whoppers’ coach Yeng Guiao.

The King Whoppers are sporting a 3-5 win-loss record. They have regained a good measure of confidence after their morale-boosting 102-86 victory over Barako Bull last Nov. 20.

Barangay Ginebra, meanwhile, tries to rebound from back-to-back losses, including a loss to TNT last Wednesday, as it tackles a hard luck Coca-Cola in the main tussle at 7:20 p.m.

The Gin Kings’ small men are down with injuries — albeit minor — but just the same, most of them are doubtful starters, although JayJay Heterbrand is said to be ready to play. Mark Caguioa will continue to miss the game, and so is Celino Cruz, who hurt his finger the last time out.

The double-header will be preceded by a no-bearing game between San Miguel Beer and Smart-Gilas at 2:30 p.m. Arman Carandang

The purists would whine but what i'd like to see is that two imports (one Asian and one international) should be allowed (sure, sure it would take another job or two from the "locals"--- but it's a price the league should be willing to take) and yeah, no height limit at all.

barrios and the PBA: gaya-gaya puto maya.

trans: they don't have original innovations. :D

instead of getting imports from asia, why not invite an asian team to participate in the pba?

They'll have a taste of Yeng Guiao basketball..:D:D:D
NT would benefit from this..:D

Abolish the height limit rule!!

Of course, he isn't. Same as the ABL people who probably copied the (import) system off Euro leagues ;)

This "copied" innovation could work but i still don't understand the height limit rule at all. A petition to the board might work, maybe they will listen.

Hehe will the naturalized asians allowed (Wright Vroman) na it si there already only the pure ones but what about the half bred its the saying if you can't beat them buy them surely San miguel will get the best possible asian player

i think the reason why the pba wants to have 6'6 imports is because they think these imports are 'flashier' than taller imports.

i really don't get it. if there is no limit to the height of reinforcement, any pba team can still get a 6'5 import if they choose to. when the pba removed height restrictions during eala's time, that conference was also a hit with imports like chris alexander, adam parada...

i really don't see any logic behind this ruling....

if anyone can explain to me... please do...

I think your assesment is correct .... they are going for 6'6 imports because they are more likely to be more 'flashier' or could provide more entertainment.

Another reason I see is that in the International Basketball Market 6'6 players are much more cheaper than players of unlimited height. Sometimes even a Average Quality Big Man gets paid a bigger amount than a more talented 6'6 player.

Then it also shows that the PBA has no intention of competing in FIBA International competition anymore as they saw no need to have our PBA players exposed to players of unlimited height whose presence could have helped our players development in playing against taller international teams.

well, 'flashiness' is relative. i think i'm not the only one here who thinks that watching a 7-footer sky for an alleyoop, swat shots into the stands, and perhaps break a backboard are exciting enough. also, tall imports nowadays are flexible enough to play outside the paint. what's more exciting than mark caguioa doing a tear drop shot over a befuddled 7-ft import? or kelly williams in-your-face slam over a 7footer?

with regards to economics, if shorter imports are 'cheaper', the 'no height restricition policy' means any pba team can still hire the them. why restrict their choices/options?

6-6 imports may be flashy, but it usually disrupts team chemistry. And, for me, having a height limit in place SUCKS. It doesn't increase the competition.

If you have a 7 footer in place, would it be better if some of our players could dunk or even take a shot over them?

IMHO, remove height limit if they want the competition to be more intense and be team oriented. Its a huge risk, but the returns could be great. We've seen it when the height limit was removed. I saw more fans attending the game.
