Their (PBA Selection) 8th place performance in the recent ABC is the main reason for the dwindling gate attendance. Pinoys just lost their excitement knowing that they're just losers (no offense) to most of the Asian countries.

Maybe if the present national team can do the trick, winning the Asian crown then there might be a renaissance of sort, and the PBA might benefit from the NT's success.

before, there was a report saying the gate attendance increased but that was when Smart Gilas' games have a bearing.. but after making Smart Gilas' games non-bearing, i wonder what's the difference now.. because i noticed few people are now watching the 2pm games compared to the first 3.. also, i believe the Smart Gilas' games having a bearing was one reason why there was an increase in gate attendance..

PBA viewership and attendance have been declining long since the start of this decade.

i think it would be an overestimation at this point to think that the Smart Gilas could have had a significant effect before in the increase (or decrease) of attendance. i don't think they are at that stage yet despite the positive feedback during their game against Powerade.

as for that game in Cebu, i'd blame it on the very poor promotional job on PBA and their counterpart organizer for that game. i should know, because i'm here and i didn't see any banners nor enough advertisements about it. there was just no effort. others found the ticket too expensive. SMB is popular here but their match-up for that game in Cebu is unexciting. even if i knew that there was a game, i didn't even bother to buy a ticket LOL

in fairness, in some of their recent out-of-town games, PBA had some decent attendance but i would credit that mostly to the local organizers who made the extra effort in promoting their games.

in cebu, a fan commented "why will i watch the pba when pba teams can't even beat the cebu ninos?"

the pba teams are losing respect.

i guess that fan haven't seen enough of the recent games where the Ninos lost to a PBA team, ironically one of the most recent of which was Coca Cola :D

any probinsyano fan who looks 'up' to the pba, expect the pba teams to demolish any non-pba teams. now, what do you think will happen if these pba teams are losing and having close games against their local team? fans will surely be disenchanted, turned off, and lose excitement with the pba.

the quality of games (from a viewer's view) is also down. for sure, we have a couple of down-to-the wire games but some of these games are close because both teams are erratic and prone to a spate of errors even in the closing minutes of a game.

And also there is rumors that one of the coach in the PBA is selling game in order to win in betting games!:confused::confused:

I cannot really tell and give a clue because you will easily recognize him and also may jeopardized his career. Sorry for not telling but one thing for sure that these rumors come from a very realible source. This is my last post about this topic...next topic please..;)

I felt it could have been a wrong move.

You know, I think that since 2007, all the PBA Finals went to game 7(Except BGK vs Air21 in 2007-2008 Fiesta Cup).. It won't be new if this year's finals would also reach game 7..

I still believe that the reason for the progressive decline of the PBA is not due to the poor performance of the PBA backed National teams in International Competitions but because of the competition the PBA has, be it Soap Operas,Cable TV and specially the saturation of the NBA to the basketball market.............

The PBA Marketing division has failed to create interest for the league,,,plain and simple, even the participation of Smart Gilas would not increase the PBA's viewership significantly

we could say that the start of the decline would be the creation of the MBA which bombarded Local Television with too much basketball, I still believe that the Lopez's decision to create/back the MBA is not to support Philippine Basketball but to undermine the popularity of the PBA during the 90s......

Poor performance in the International Competitions is just a small piece, or variable to the decline, but not the sole reason, the failure to articulate interest to the league is the culprit, heck the LOpez's had marketed the UAAP and NCAA to non alumni-students of its member institutions, the PBA should look at that model, they surely miss the business approach of Jun Bernanrdino

bro, the bgk-air 21 finals also went to game 7

it seldom happens that a championship series in the PBA will end in 4-5 games starting 2003. the era of noli eala and sonny barrios combined. it usually end in six games or seven games. championship series that ends in a sweep or in five games for best of 7 or 3 games for best of 5 series happened only before this era.

2003 Season
All-Filipino Conference - Talk 'N Text beat Coca-Cola 4–2
Invitational Cup - Alaska beat Coca-Cola 3–1
Reinforced Conference - Coca-Cola beat San Miguel 4–3

2004 Season (transitional conference moving into the current season format)
Fiesta Cup - Barangay Ginebra beat Red Bull 3–1

2004–05 Season
Philippine Cup - Barangay Ginebra beat Talk 'N Text 4–2
Fiesta Cup - San Miguel beat Talk 'N Text 4–1

2005–06 Season
Fiesta Cup - Red Bull beat Purefoods 4–2
Philippine Cup - Purefoods beat Red Bull 4–2

2006–07 Season

Fiesta Cup - Alaska beat Talk 'N Text 4–3

2007–08 Season

Fiesta Cup - Barangay Ginebra beat Air21 4–3

2008–09 Seasoon
