PBA season 2009-2010 (Philippine Cup)

10-2 blitz by TNT to start the third. Damn Ginebra, so much for leads. Guess they are in real trouble now.

21 points with 3 three points shots already for JC Intal. This is the conference (and series) where he really exploded into a legit star. Still a one point lead for Ginebra.

update us please

BGK wins 102 - 97

best player was Menk, with 19pts and 8 rebs, although statistically Intal was more superior with 25 points and (correct me if im wrong with this) 10 rebs.

it was almost like game 2 with intal missing FTs just when the game was on the line...the kings were lucky that the texters missed their last 2 3-point attempts to escape the game.

Its like BGK has no shooting coach, I mean E-Vill even had an airball in the FT line and Intal choked again.

It was a lucky win.

that's rico since his ateneo days

on intal ei the guy is just starting to play in big games give him some more time

here are the facts:

local PBA player max salary = P350,000/month
local CBA chinese player max salary = P170,000/month

Chinese NT player max salary = P560,000/month

there's your answer....

You're talking about the CBL's 2009 offseason salary cap which was a drastic measure implemented by the league due to its huge losses, which is not yet applicable to most of the players with existing and live contracts.

Salaries of local players like Bateer Menk with 4.0M Yuan (that's roughly 2.3M Pesos/month), not to mention the salaries of their imports Bonzi Wells and Starbury, this problem of overpaying players is the very reason why their league is now on the brink.

The top Korean players, Seo Jang-hoon of the Thunders and Kim Joo-sung of the Promy, make 470 million Korean won (roughly 1.9 Million pesos/month) per year.

And you say that Chinese ballclubs can afford to pay high salaries, obviously that's already a thing in the past with their just recent salary cap rules.

yes.

compare the financial standings of our pba teams with that of china's and korea's. cba teams can even afford to import nba stars...

chinese teams CAN AFFORD it, while for PBA teams, it's a BIG RISK.

just think of this: you own sta lucia and you spent millions of pesos for kelly williams, tapos wala pang 2nd quarter sa isang exhibition game sa australia nagka ACL injury. pano ngayon yung investment mo?

loss of you best player -> early elimination of your team -> less exposure for your brand/product -> less sales and revenues -> the company can go bankrupt -> loss of jobs...

even the greatest league in the world is now requiring insurance money for their international players.

So this brings us back to the basic principle of risk in relation to cost of investment.

Just the same, we will still see the best of what China has to offer in FIBA, their players exposed to the same amount of risk of being injured, same risks involved with players from Korea, Iran, Lebanon, Philippines and the rest of Asia.

it's not blind patriotism. it simply pays better to be in the chinese NT than to be in a CBA club.

and the best players of Chinese NT are not even playing in the CBA.

Not all players in Asia share the same mentality of our Professional basketball association. Even some of our PBA players do hope to represent our country and take pride with it, they just couldn't do it on their own. And i beg your pardon, its not called blind patriotism, it is simply love for one's own country, and there should be no negative connotation on this.

Though very important, money isn't everything.;)

...and contracts are binding too... ;)

Actually I was referring to the whole BGK team, I just made examples out of those two coz I swear to God the Gins is like one of the worse FT shooters, especially when it counts.

How many attempts did they have 30+ last night and how many did the made? maybe 20+ so roughly 75%-80% in a good day. lolz!

I agree. Unlike contracts of other Asian players we see playing in FIBA.

no problem, as long as the national team budget can afford it. it's easy to loosen any contract with money :D

70% is a good percentage for a team. i just don't know if what are the kings' percentage in this series.

but yes, you are right the kings need to shape from the FT line if ever they intend to force a game 5.

70% is bad when your guards are missing badly like the Kings.

I can understand the big men but the guards... the guards! X_X;;;

or maybe fans could forgive them so as long as they make the ones that count the most (4th quarter, last 5 minutes, last 2 minutes-especially when game is still on the line). problem is, they are still missing even FTs that are supposed to be the winning points.
