Olympiacos prepared to make offer to AI

I do not like this player as a personality.

For me, with all his tatoos and his strange hairdress he looks like a clown rather than a serious basketball player. The only thing that is missing is a red nose and a flower that can spatter water.

we are questioning Iverson's abilities!?!?
no wonder he's nickname is "the Answer" :D

but don't worry, there isn't a chance he might come to europe,
so the EL will be saved by the disaster he would brought

Euroleague, I love this game

Woah. A lot to take in when read all at once. I'll give it a shot though...

-I don't know why everyone acts as if he's soft and complains ON THE COURT. He's the toughest pound-for-pound basketball player probably ever.

-It's really not appropriate (in my opinion) for anyone to reference his half-year in Detroit when judging him as a player. Let's not judge a Hall of Famer based on 54 games (in which he still averaged 17.4 ppg despite the numerous benchings and the closed door controversies). The guy has a career scoring average of 27 ppg.

-Do we have to compare every NBA import from here on out to Childress? They couldn't be much more different in their style of play, and AI can definitely hit the international 3-pointer, whereas Childress knows that isn't his game. Side note: Childress is a career 80% FT shooter, even though his form is ugly as sin. Just giving credit where credit is due. All's well that ends well.

-OLY could probably use the money a bit more wisely, but as a basketball fan (and I am echoing the opinions of another poster here), why wouldn't you want to see this go through? For all the NBA haters, wouldn't you want him to come over and NOT be able to score at will? Result: more respect for the Euroleague and a better global understanding of the beautiful differences in the two games. I, for one, would be thrilled at the prospect.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's opinions. I can always count on some diversity here.

Good post man. One or two things i would like to point out though.
Nobody said anything about AI being soft. Far from it I would say!
Getting upset because of "dirty" defence is a different matter though.

Childress is a very good player very athletic but lacks shooting skills. His first season at the euroleague was not that great. The guy loves to drive to the basket. In euroleague he could not adjut to the different defensive plays so he could not score. Props to him though, by the end of the season he seemed to adjust to his playing role and improved significantly.

AI is a great player. If he played for a different team than Olympiacos (a "faster" team) he would be great. I think AI does not fit in Olympiacos roster (not because of skills of course...) he would struggle to adjust to his new role.

I dont think there are many people here that want AI to fail. I for one am not an NBA hater. I grew up watching NBA. However the days of a player from the NBA coming to Europe and scoring 40 points are long gone. Over here it is more team defence and offence than 1 to 1 plays. As you said there are differences and players have to adjust. It took Childress a whole year to start improving. I mean i would read posts in the Atlanta forum and i thought childress would score 30 points every game. Well he scored 6-10 points per game and he played a lot of minutes. I thought he guy can not be that bad...and of course he is not. He needed time to adjust.

I would love for AI to come to Europe so i can watch all Olympiacos games (even though i am not an Oly fan) but my honest opinion is that he does not fit to the team's mentality.

Yeah, if he came Olympiakos would win all titles.... Keep dreaming...

:D:rolleyes:

where did you read that in the post that you quoted?!?!
two are "singing" and three are dancing :D

in matter of fact that's what i wrote a few posts ago

except an Olympiakos fan, I am also a bball fan and i would be thrilled watching a true NBA legend playing every week with my team's jersey
sure winning titles is great but if i cared only about that i would have stopped watching bball a looong time ago, but no, I love bball as a game and I would go in every home game of Olympiakos just to watch the (few) highlights that only someone like AI could offer, that would make me leave the court with a smile on my face :)

oh my god!! my evil identical twin brother!!!

you are reading other forums as well and replying to those posts to other forums!?!?

why didnt you reply that to that guy with the same avatar with me to that forum?! ;)

besides you are 100% sure that AI wouldn't win any titles?
he may or may not, I think that he could make impact but even if he doesn't win, it's enough for me that I would have seen one of my favourite players playing for my team, its not very difficult to comprehend

for instance, I don't really care if Dominique is considered to have played well or not in PAO, as a bball fan I am glad he came to play in Greek league even if it was for PAO

you see, ever after 12 years with out a title I am still watching bball because I am indeed a bball fan unlike some other "objective" fans ;)

Cause then I would be banned and I would not be able to read "Nikaia"s gems. I love that guy. The confidence in which he writes complete nonsense about bball never ceases to amaze me. :D

I couldn't disagree on that :D
but you are replying to me to this forum about posts of another user to another forum?!

just to save you from the trouble of replying to me,
I will recapitulate
many believe that AI would be terrible in europe, I believe he could play well
but even he doesn't I wouldn't mind at all, as I said I am a bball fan
so for me AI is a win-win situation :D

Well, it all depends on what one means by saying "play well".

Will he provide good stats? Will he provide high scoring with not so good stats?

Will he "play well" and his team does terrible?

How would he cope with Giannakis?

Would he go apeshit on some nightclub?

being good enough to be in all-EL team, giving some of the best highlights of the year

as for Giannakis, I am sure that you would agree that Giannakis isn't working too much on the offence, so I think that a player in that style is needed to carry the load on the scoring, and if they were thinking of signing McIntyrre then why not sign AI?!

as for his personal life I wouldn't care less, its not in my character to judge other person's personal life, if he would be that much of a trouble maker I can not tell but thats a risk that I think its worth taking

Those are pretty shallow reasons for not liking a player. lol @ 'strange' hairdress. I guess anything different is 'strange'. Perhaps you have heard of braids? It's a common hairstyle throughout the world.

I don't think Giannakis and McIntyre would be a good match either. ;)

sure, but at least AI is much much better than McIntyre ;)

but unfortunately there is not a chance coming to europe,
in matter of fact saying that he may come to europe is almost as "crazy" as saying he is not good enough for the european bball :D

but hey, until he signs to an NBA team or decides to retire, you never know

Shallow or not, this is my opinion. I dislike completely this pseudo gangster style. Maybe this is judged as "cool" by ten year old kids, I don't know.

I prefer the "hairdress" Michael Jordan had as an active player.

Yes, I used "google image" and searched for braids. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&q=braids&sa=N&start=0&ndsp=21
But, I am wondering why google shows me only women.

I preferred his skills and I couldnt care the least about his hairstyle or his earings

Sorry, but I was referring to his personality or rather the image he transports. I do not like this. With no word I mentioned his basketball skills.

Thanks, One of the listed links gives the following information:

Useful to help create a casual or even a dramatic look many men are looking towards braids to help give them a unique hairstyle. While typically in the past, braids have been considered for women only before moving to the ethnic culture, they have now started moving much more mainstream with many men looking fondly at braids for their perfect hairstyle.
I do not have a problem with men having long hair. And I also respect old African traditions. But I dislike the people who try to give themselves a "dramatic" gangster look.

Funny anwser to question in interview with Nikola Vujačić. source: rtvslo.si

How do you comment that Olympiakos is trying to bring AI to Europe?
There were also offers for Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. We are sending those offers to anyone! :D

sure AI coming to europe looks crazy! the only reason he would ever decide to come would be if he doesn't want to be a bench player

just out of curiosity,
are there many guards in europe that are quicker than AI??
having better dribbling skills?
are tougher in physichal game than him?
