Hello.

I read the forums but dont post I noticed that people cant accept that Smart is losing which is bad because I think they are good but is raw in this level.

So I will start the list.

1. Age - i agree here because many are very young players.
2. Rules - hehehe. When a team is losing madali na magpalusot. The rules naman kasi di ganun kalaki ang pagkakaiba. People are just making it as an excuse.
3. Defense - The other team have always a good game sa opensa against Gilas. Sana matrain pa ni Toroman to play tougher defense

there is no need for excuses .... the team is in training but a loss is still a loss. The only way out is to correct the mistakes and try much harder to be better.

As stated by Toroman, Iran encountered a lot of embarrassment before achieving success, they endured 40 to 50 point losses, being told that they stick to football or whatever but they persevered.

We just Filipinos need to accept that instant success is hard to come by anymore and one really has to work hard and make lots of sacrifices to get results but along the way we might fall down a lot of times and all we have to do is rise up then keep doing the right thing.

No excuses. They are just having a normal cohesion problem which happens most of the time with a new mix. Its just a phase. They will start winning pretty soon.

if there are fanboys definitely there are also haters.

fanboys are just overhyping the team. the team is doing fine. they will lose some games. they are a developmental team. lets cheer now and just wait until 2011.

Admitting that the Smart Gilas needs improvement is one thing. But conceding that the PBA is better than the Smart GIlas players is totally another thing. So what do you want to hear from these people who in your opinion are unable to accept the Gilas defeats?

On my part i have already conceded that the PBA teams are really really good at what they do. I have even said that the Asian Champions cannot stop the PBA teams in their little game in this little corner of the world. But that's just me speaking my mind.

At the outset it would seem that before anyone can really say anything noteworthy in this discussion, he has to take at least one of two sides- Either the PBA is better suited internationally or the Smart Gilas is better suited internationally as one of these two premises is the logical conclusion to all our concerns. No point in limiting the topic to the actual results of the games which have been so far in favor of PBA teams as this barely answers our main concern. (unless your main concern is only the PBA in which case you're free to conclude that PBA teams are better than Gilas)

My take is that no PBA-backed team can successfully represent us internationally because of their players' pre-programmed habits which almost always translate to bad calls on the part of the refs and bad judgment on the part of the pba players when playing internationally. This is irreparable considering the circumstances of Philippine basketball politics and the enterprising nature of the PBA. As such, it is inferior to Smart Gilas which is designed to play the international brand of Basketball.
Perhaps a simplistic demonstration will suffice, viz: Smart Gilas beat Singapore Slingers under FIba Rules. Singapore SLingers beat PBA teams under FIBA rules. All other things being equal, Smart Gilas should beat the PBA teams under FIBA rules.

Gilas has done exactly the opposite of every frustrating decision of the PBA with respect to its national team experimentations. Judging from its brief international stint, GIlas seems more disciplined and cohesive than any PBA-backed RP team. But if Gilas is really more suited internationally, then why is the PBA beating the hell out of these guys? I will leave the answer to that question to each and everyone's subjective assessment. But no matter how you or the next guy interpret it, there is no effing way that a PBA team stinking with its isolationist pba system which i fondly call the agaw-buko system, can win against this incomplete developmental squad in a FIBA version of basketball that the latter has been training to master.

Apparently it's you who needs to understand why SMART Gilas is playing in the PBA in the first place.

Excuses, I never read any excuses when they lost a game even coach Toroman takes full responsibility when they lost the game and he emphasize what are their weaknesses unlike our former coach and team of the RP NT they always find excuses when they lost :)

Howdy folks, my 2 cents worth of opinion is that Gilas Squad is built to play for country/flag on the very foremost and the PBA league is just there to help them along the way... take baby little steps before making that gigantic leap to the 2011 Championship qualifyers.

But lets face it as early as today let me tell you no Gilas Squad without the reinforcements of the PBA squad would lead to any significant success.

To make the best of both worlds, Philippine Team coached by Torroman must have the very least the following players:

1) Kelly Williams
2) Jimmy Alapag
3) Gabe Norwood
4) Sonny Thoss
5) CJ Giles
6) Jarred Dillinger
7) Stanly Pringle
8) Chris Lutz
9) Mick Pennissi

I leave the last 3 slots open to Gilas developmental squad who compete with sweat, blood and tears during the next 2 years ahead.

But hey the USA squad named the players first before training it so who cant resist adding the final 3 missing pieces of the puzzle:

10)
11)
12)

Dont bother about the excuses but this would be a viable solution to RP quest come 2011... peace!

Smart Gilas is a developmental team, right? If they play and don't lose, are they going to improve and develop into a winning team?

in terms of talent, this is a superior team, the only problem would be commitment, we've seen the likes of Yao slowly deteriorating because of his commitment to China and the NBA, Peja, Dirk, Manu and company skipping tournament after tournament to heal their banged bodies.......

the same goes with the PBA players, you just can't have them commit full time to the NT

we are losing right now..but i think we are on the right track.. ^^
surely,if ever we emerge as Asian champions and qualify to the olympics, millions of Filipinos will be happy and 15 of those millions of Filipinos are the "happier" ones....wait 2 secs to reload the image
