Greg Slaughter...

upto ASIAN Games and proffesional players only... but the funding is not the same amount what SMART spending... and I'm comparing the amatuer NT players right now compare to the amateur NT players before.

Early 90's we have a deep talent of amateur players, to name a few; Marlou Aquino, Kenneth Duremdes, Victor Pablo, Dennis Espino, Rey Evangelista, Johhny Abarientos et al, but they didn't get the same luxury of what GILAS players are getting.

well, you guys were comparing marlou and ej with greg. you were discussing motivation, and you raised the financial angle. so i thought you were pertaining to the asian games NT's, not the SEAG NT's. marlou and ej's motivation were never questioned when they did play for SEAG NT's.

And i'm pretty sure the coach you quoted saying "bano" and "tanga" was an asian games NT coach.

and please.... smart gilas are NOT amateurs. save for the kids still in college, most smart gilas players receive salaries. hence, they are "professionals." it is only in the sense that they don't have GAB licenses that they may be deemed as not pros. but that is just an idiosyncrasy of philippine basketball. for all intents and purposes, they are pros.

well I hate marlou's attitude but this time I will be on their side.

you still don't get it, during those times (90's) funding for NT is difficult as the govt who really shoulder the expenses, unlike today, some of GILAS players receives the same salary of the max contract of rookies in PBA. Plus oppurtunity to play abroad and practice abroad.

addition for that, bad styling of motivating players from the coach "P*^&nginamo ang laki laki mo ang bano at tanga mo!"

even the triple towers of St. Francis (Deocampo brothers and Canlas) if they have the same oppurtunity, things will be different.

If I remember it right, those comments were made by Marlou during the formation of the 2002 NT. And as far as I know, the 2002 NT was funded by SMB and they had trainings/tournaments abroad such as in the US(?), Serbia and Italy. As for the salary, aren't the PBA clubs paying for their salaries? I think he was getting 500K/month then...

I think what happened were clash of egos (or too much ego). He did not like the method of Jong and he did not like being with Asi (his heir apparent or equal and he considers a fil-sham). I think the "allowance" comment were just made to show his unwillingness to cooperate (as he was already a millionaire then), he did not have the balls to say staight up of his dislikes, and that irritated Jong more and eventually dropped him from the roster.

sorry for some misunderstanding, what I'm referring is the SEAG and some ABA tournament league.

no prob dude. one thing for sure. marlou aquino and ej feihl were born way too early. imagine if they are college kids now and playing for smart gilas. toroman's training could have done wonders for them. :)

Agree. Story could have been different with the trainings they could get from Coach T and ofcourse add in some allowances :D. Could have been an awesome frontline with GS.

Greg Slaughter dominated the boards in a tuneup game against an undermanned Sta. Lucia before their US trip. . .He grabbed 15 rebounds . . .Way to go Greg !

I'm happy for Greg. He made the right decisions, he stood up for what he wanted and how he's reaping the benefits of it.

One important thing to note is that Greg made all the decisions himself without anybody telling him what to do. His heart dictated that he devote his services for the national team and that is what he has set out to do. This early, as the young giant grows up, he has already developed a high basketball IQ as he absorbs every bit of instructions Coach Toroman has given him. Greg is a good listener and will take a mistake and turn it around because he realizes that this is the only way a person can grow up, physically, mentally and emotionally . . .I am very proud of where Greg is heading and I am not surprised to hear Toroman say for the very first time that Greg is our first option at Center for the Asian Games . . .Keep it up Greg !

we can add andy seigle in the equation. that guy, at 6'9-6'10, was wasted. he was in the top 2 in both rebounds and shotblocks in 1997 and 1998 but and played very well in the 1998 asian games but his game went downhill starting 1999. he has the ht of marlou plus more agility and hops.

Injuries Got the Best of Andy Seigle.. That's why His Game slowed Down... But he represented RP Basketball Team Twice in Bangkok 1998 and Busan 2002.. Was a Bench warmer in his 2nd stint with RP team...

This was because Asi Taulava was taken in by Mobiline as a direct hire in 1999.

i believe his game started to worsen even before his injuries (1999).

well, for the national team, and maybe even for the pba, let us hope that GS would not imitate the career of seigle, starting with a lot of promise that was never realized.

Ok... but I still believe Seigle was included in the RPteam2002 for his game not just his height alone... he game might have slowed a bit... but he was still useful even if he only played like 5-6mins. a game then...But GS would be Graduating from Gilas after 3 years right?... Hope he shows his new skills to our asian Neighbors and challenge maybe Yao ming or Ahdadi for best Center in Asia...:D:D:D

this is correct....the way we see it, he is not dependent on agents and stuff..he would not let them make decision for them...that's good

Hey check out Greg's dunk in the 0:46 mark. I have not seen even Japeth make this kind of move. GS might not be there yet but he is really on the right track. He is showing that he is not a lumbering slow footed over-sized basketball player that a number of people perceived him to be.

Coach Rajko making Greg the next Asi of Philippine Basketball.! more year of training he will a beast inside the paint.

Kahit mga 70 percent lang sya ni Asi ok na I hope people stop overrating him and just wait for his development kasi we expect to much if that happens

Greggyboi should enroll in UP Diliman instead. This will turn the Fighting Morons into the Fighting Maroons of Benjie Paras' time.:) Peyups' BAA program is already legendary in its spectacular rate of passing the accounting Board exams over the decades. Besides, UP Diliman is certainly bigger than Ateneo in land size and size of ancient trees, as would befit a seven footer jogger. There would also be no stupid claims about pirating: Peyups recruits legit nerds and twerps, not pirates.

If he wants, he can even start a new religion, a new environment cause, or the next political party there. He can just about try anything in Peyups.

He can even get an ultra smart girlfriend there who can defend him from the forum tsismosos here.:D

Hahaha don't get me wrong dtfernando but for me you are the Simon Cowell of interbasket forum hehehe...
