Future Big Men Of Philippine Basketball

If AVO went to the US instead of staying here then maybe he could have become another Japeth in terms of athleticism, or even better.

His shooting didn't seem to improve after the long break.

Hope Jason Perkins can convince his uncle Kendrick to come over here for a 1-2 day big man camp.

getting foreign players at an early age

like what i've said another option is to get U-16 foreign players to play for us...I don't know much about the legalities of this since you can't naturalize anyone at a young age.Maybe our top schools could get highschool or even pre school foreign students and lend them to the national team when they turn 16.Getting foreign players to play for our U-16 and U-18 national team would mean ethy will be classified as locals and not as naturalized players.time for the PBA to make a Kirk Long/Alex Compton rule as well.

as you can see Cheik Kone is taller than AVO

I think Cheik Kone is no longer with La Salle. He went back to his home country, France.

Cheik Kone is just tall but very raw. I don't think La Salle would release him had they seen possible playing time for him. If you have to naturalize a foreigner best to naturalize someone like Mbala who has years of playing time before him, and a major game changer.

Can naturalized individuals play in the PBA as locals?

With ECJ heavily investing on Mbala, there's probably a chance he'd be the next Marcus Douthit for the PH team. No way you focus that much resources for a 4-5 year rental.

Douthit was treated as an import for the Air21 Express before.
Maybe he's investing a lot on LaSalle for another UAAP crown.
as of now, i doubt Mbala is the one that we need in international games.

We need a bigger player than Mbala, a younger and direct replacement for Douthit. Naturalization doesn't come every year and you have to choose wisely. If MVP or ECJ will be willing to invest I think they can get a better and bigger player than Mbala to naturalize.

how about we get a candidate for naturalization who plays either SF or PF. a 6'8 with outside shooting and ball handling or a 6'9 who can get the rebounds and also defend the post. we already have big men like Fajardo, Slaughter, Aguilar, Sanggalang.

Aguilar?hehe

Would you pick mbala over a bowles or dozier? he's really just an mbe for dlsu...a better version though.

of course i'll pick dozier or bowles over mbala.
i even said in my previous post that mbala is not the guy we need for the national team.
my point is, instead of a center, why don't we pick a forward as a candidate for naturalization.

Because we already have a lot of forwards, and if we're going to spend time, effort and money naturalizing someone, it better be someone who's at least 6'10.

Sure, we already have Fajardo and Slaughter, but what happens when one of them can't play?

Ekwe volunteered for naturalization before, but he's too small at 6'8.

We have a limited supply of big forwards, but there are still supplies.

What we don't have supply of are very big and athletic centers. If you will naturalize, you might as well use it on a player as rare as uranium in the local scene. Slaughter isn't athletic enough.

ok,i can see your point. it's because of the scarcity of athletic and tall centers. aside from fajardo and slaughter, there are no more 6'9" and above young pinoy players that we know as of today.

I know this is a bit early/late (depends on what your point of view is) but I think we should look for another big guy for future big guy probably someone who can fill Douthit's shoes..we all know the guy isn't getting any younger and there are a lot of talents out there.I'm thinking of getting a 20-23 year old 6'10-7 feet player.Someone who has NBA experience or even a legit NBA guy(if we have the budget).

There were some talk that flew during the PBA Commissioner Cup regarding the interest of the NT to hire Michael Dunnigan. I do not know if SBP was real serious with that.

I'm not sure, but I think that AVO guy is 6'10. Can anyone confirm or correct me on this?

He's developed quite a footwork this year. It's still not pro/international standards, but at least he's improved.

AVO is 6'7 tops. Sadly, he plays small and has a hitch in his free throw shooting. Has not improved that much since I first saw him when he was 14 years old. Up to now, second tier PBA guys like Maierhoffer, Allado and even Noy Baclao will outrebound and give him fits.

If he were developed properly, he could be at least at the journeyman level like Japeth Aguilar.
