This. The reasoning is simple, he is already under CTC playing the triangle so you only have to deal with chemistry. Others you have to teach more.
Troy also played under CTC prior to this. During the 2019 SEA games.

He'll compete with Carl and AJ for the 4 spot. I hope those two still get minutes this coming window.
Not really against it for now, though. He improved defensively since last Governors' Cup. He defended JB pretty well then, and he's been good for Ginebra on defense so far this Commissioner's Cup. Hope it translates in the event he does get called up to the 12.
Not part of the main 12 that mainly play the 5:
QMB
Japeth Aguilar
Justine Baltazar
Justin Arana
Geo Chui
stop with the Arana suggestion. Tell us how Arana will guard Steve Adams or Zhou Qi?

Worth trying because he’s 37.
If Bennie’s papers aren’t ready post-Asia Cup, then the only player viable is Ange.
SBP was so stupid not giving RHJ an opportunity to be out next naturalized player... They knew JB is near retirement.. RHJ seems loves our country and like JB, he wants to be here too.. but they waste the opportunity and the latter joined Jordan instead...
do share your ideas then, I merely answered a question posted on the thread. Yeah tell us how will Gilas match up against Adams and Qi? got any bright ideas coach?
Zhou Qi was already solved by the trio of Kai, Fajardo, and Edu. As for Adams, the three will have a harder time because of his strength but I will take any of those three over Arana, all day all week to take on Qi and Adams.
We can't have all of them (good quality naturalized player prospects) bro. Jordan basketball also has a very program, & the Jordanians are willing to shell out a good amount of money to get the best naturalized player they can afford. The thing about RHJ is that he isn't an all around a player like Justin Brownlee is. RJH lacks a consistent 3-pt shot, which for me is his glaring weakness. Such a weakness was exposed during the 2023 Asian Games basketball championship game where Gilas beat Jordan for the gold. There were many instances during that game where RHJ's defender left him open from the 3-pt distance as the defender would rather gamble in giving RHJ an open 3 rather than get blown by if the defender sticks close to RJH. For a naturalized player playing the wing position, he needs to have a decent 3-pt shooting.
Well, today his shooting improve.. and not all around? He can play all position... He's way better than Boatwright, he's a suspected defender.. you can't leave RHJ wide open.. he maybe not a good shooter as Brownlee, but he can do all things that Boatwright can't do... And last thing, he's a leader.. as we pointed out before, we need a pool of naturalized players, JB is on his twilight of his career, we need his replacement.. and where is Boatwright now? He can't still healthy until now...
We don't have to worry about Adams as probably won't suit up for NZ until he's washed.
Cris McCollough was actually a good candidate but he has the same problems as Edu: injuries.
Would’ve been awesome if he was our NP.
Kai and C-Mac tandem would be a deadly front court.
Onyeka Okongwu's name was also floated around. He would be solid.
i agree, however I have 2 concerns:
1) NBA players only play during off season. we'll still have bigman problems during qualifiers
2) i posted before, our NT coaches who mostly coach PBA teams seem to prefer to use NP who will take over the game offensively for us when the team gets checked by the opposing defence. against Asian team, sure Onyeka will over power most if not all of them. but he hasnt shown he can lift a team with his offense. once we face AUS, Euro, African, and Americas teams he would have a hard time defending and creating points game in and game out
I agree, availability will be a concern.
But on his quality, I'm not sure about him not being up to the task offensively. For perspective, imports who don't even make it to the NBA go crazy on offense on lower levels when given the keys. He has above average athleticism/length even in the NBA and he's only 24 and is still improving (same age as our "golden generation"). Just a few days ago he had a 20/20 game "off the bench."
But what makes him a great fit for us is he can play 4/5 and is very good defensively.
on the bold part, no disagreement there.
but on his 20/20 game. sure, looks wonderful. but he does have Trae who pulls defence away from the paint with his shooting and can pass the ball to anyone who gets free from his defender.
i have no doubt he can score atleast 20pts and he might even pull more than 20 rebs once in awhile .what I doubt is if we can give him the ball and just clear out. thats what we did with JC and thats what we do with JB lots of time. Thats also something CTC can do IF we get Boatright.
dont get me wrong, I support getting NP who can hold the paint for us on defence and on rebounding just like Douthit and Ange. it forces our locals to really step up in offense, and we saw that in spades with Casio, Castro, and RJ/SJ/Dwight. and we might even see this with Carl. but history shows us, PBA coaches like an NP they can give the ball to and everyone else just clear out.im not really sure if thats the kind of player Onyeka is.
