european championship U20

The way people talked about Russia i'd say it was a surprise they lost, but for a team without basic offensive talent it was actually surprising to me they got so far (I wonder what was going on in their group games and vs. France) judging by these two games.

They've got some strong, athletic guys that might develope into a servicable Sergei Panov type players. Beside that they've got Shved- overhyped eventhough he is 88' born.
When exactly will russia start to produce some serious PG/SG/C's- even those they produce are tweeners.

Spain was calmer eventhough they don't have an outstanding offense either, they didn't excell really, but unlike Russians they've got more-dimensional skilled players. Beiran and Ribas nailed the 3pointers that mattered, while Russians had nowhere to go when they had to score- they tried with Shved but... failed. Rey did a nice job hustleing in the paint.

from the first look the 3 spaniards I've mentioned might become a servicable players in ACB, but when considering euroleague imo will develope enough later through years and experience the way most spanish guards do. With Rey's size he might even have an easier job getting there.

Shved- nice speed for such height, good dribble... just the way NBA scouts love it , but... no off the ball movement, that's why i can't confirm my suspicions he can't travel through screen in offense (he is lousy with that in defense), limited offensive set (which makes me wonder the hype really), average release&mechanics and he also had some really bad decision making. Overhyped the same way Preldžič is.

The way things ussually go (Shved to NBA for 2 years, returning to europe pulling out Jiri Welsch part II., while spaniards gathering experience in ACB) I think in the period of 5-6 years 2 players of Ribas, Beiran and Fernandez will get in front of Shved easily, judging on what he has shown in the past two games.
I'd understand if he played in a team crowded with good players as in Tepić's case, but there is no excuse to play as mediocre in such a offensive non-perspective team.

And who's got the rights? cause there's no chance to watch it anywhere.
At least other years fibaeurope provided streams for semifinals or finals. I don't know why this year they don't. :(

That was so entertaining watching Daniel Hacket reapeatedly call out, stare down and curse at Labovic, Teodosic and Durkovic. It got very interesting when Labovic fouled him and Hacket got in Labovic's face. I swear Hacket was about to hit him but then Ivan Paunic and Durkovic came in and Hacket backed off. Serbia was this close to their 2nd fight, and the 2nd time they whooped somebody's ass. I know it is just basketball, but I would pay to see Paunic and Durkovic beat the hell out of Hacket. And any of yall would as well if you had seen how much crying and trash talking Hacket was doing. If I was an Italian I would be embarrassed. And on top of all of that, after the game he came to the Serbian bench and pointed at Teodosic and Labovic and pointed to outside and clinched his fists. Fortunetly for him, his coaches pulled him away and apologized to the Serbian coaches and the Serbian officials sitting courtside.

To the game, Teodosic, Dragovic and Tepic all played cool and calm. This team really turns it on at the right time. The Italians were never in the game and Hacket and Datome were nowhere to be found. There was a great crowd on hand, but the went home disappointed.

Ribas played amazing for Spain. Rey was absolutely nowhere to be found. It is clear to see how little potential he has after watching today's game.

Batuk played AMAZING for Turkey. For his sake, Tanjevic was on hand. This kid has to be top 3 1990 with Rubio and Dedovic. Every player and coach/scout is in awe when told he is only 1990.

Hackett was a complete disappointed so far in the tournament (although his decent all-around stats)... and his bad attitude in game (trash talking, etc) proably came from his last 2 years spent in USA like the typical playground spirit... still, he's in the 18-men list for the senior NT and Recalcati yesterday said Daniel will be the starter PG of Italy in 3 years from now... we'll see...

Italy was in game just in the 1st quarter, when the outside shot seemed to work. But it's the same story when you don't have a big man to speak of (please, Bruttini and Datome are small forwards, not centers!) and the shot goes off... Serbia outrebounded us in the 1st half and played much better overall. The final against Spain is well deserved. I hope Italy can finish 3rd in the EC but i highly doubt (last year we already lost the bronze medal game)...

Slovenia made a huge comeback from -20 already vs. Israel and beat them at the end 90:81.

Slovenia - Israel 90:81 FT
Perko 14pts+4rbs+2ast, Preldzic 16pts+3rbs+2ast, Klobučar 11pts+3rbs+4ast, Krušič 16pts+11rbs, Čigoja 13pts+3rbs, Vidmar 10pts+8rbs+3ast - Casspi 25pts+6rbs, Kadir 12pts+3rbs, Dunne 12pts+1rbs

Israelis had amazing 3pt % for the whole game (untill last quarter they were like 8/12) and almost surprised Slovenians. ;)

edit: as ussual, elaj beat me to it...

50-21 partial in the last 15 minutes fo slovenian U20 team- damn that instability.
Once 8 and another time 35 points in a quarter...

Damn you, Slovenians! Is it a curse or something? We can't beat you even once in this competition. Wait and see, You'll hear from us in Senior level! :D

Italy grabs the bronze medal due to a very good game against Russa, 74-63 the final result.

Regarding the players, the game MVP goes to Luigi Datome (finally!) who finishes with 26 points (10/15 FG), 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Nice game also by Piazza with 6 assists and 5 steals and Aradori (11 points in 15'), although all the guys played good this time...

Russia outrebounded us 34-21 but it wasn't enough if you finish with 20 turnovers... Nice win guys! :)

Serbia had troubles protecting the ball in the first minutes, alltogether with nervousness and all starting 5 playing point. Teodošić and Tepić are occasionally acting as superstars crushing in the paint without any logical solution other than no look pass to spaniards- those fast breaks and Llull's 3pointers are keeping Spain in the game otherwise Serbia looks like at lest one level above them in defense and offense.

congratulations.

Teodošič surprised me. It was clear he was above the level here, but unlike Tepić he didn't get overconfident but played it's part. Tepić looked as if he doesn't really cares about this tournament. Maybee it's Vujošević forceing him to play PG and he found himself in some sort of crisis, but he ussually performed much more reliable at much higher level than this one.

Serbia is the only team that managed to win back to back title in U20...

So now we can officially call them "golden generation" now. This team won every competition from Cadets, via U-18, and now U-20( BTW the second U-20 title in a row for Serbia). They are exactly the opposite from the current generation in terms of being a real team. Serbia's future really looks bright.

Teodošić with a well deserved MVP.

lineup of the tournament
PG: Teodošić
SG: Shved
SF: Da Tome
PF: Labović
C: Rey

Congrats to Serbia.
The future looks bright indeed, provided the attitude towards the senior NT will remain the same.
