Euroleague Top16, Day 2

  • Thread starter Thread starter fante2
  • Start date Start date
Piagiani strikes again. This was a carbon copy of Siena Final Four game vs. Maccabi a couple of years ago : start with a strong defense , double digit lead and then defense is gone with all easy points out of it. The opponent triples go in ... , their own refuse to enter - end of story. As usual - no plan B or reaction whatever from Piagiani

All others away wins tell the usual story : it's a Top16 , all the pressure on home team not to lose a home , so if you stay close till the end, the home team will collapse under pressure.

Discussion between Logan and Ribas via twitter:

David Logan: "These clowns over here make a nigga wanna get on the first bird smoking back home"

Pau Ribas, a bit later: "Menys escriure i més jugar i guanyar!!! Óstia!!!" (less writing and more playing and winning! Fuck!)

David Logan de nuevo. "If you not a coach then save your comments."

Hahah thats awesome, i love drama like this. MOOAARR i demand it lol...

Finally one player who calls out Ivanovic the turd...

At least we know why Caja is playing like crap.

Also i have really gotten used to calling them Caja surprisingly quick, i thought i would call them TAU for ever.

Later, Pau Ribas said to a supporter: "este tweet es exclusivo para mi!! Faltaría mas!! Es puramente motivador y positivo!! Gracias por el apoyo!!! Aupa baskonia!!" (this tweet is exclusively for me, missing more. It's purely motivational and positive, thanks for your supporting. Go Baskonia.)

And it seems David Logan deleted his account... If you search it, the web shows you an error.

although efes got a well deserved game against partizan, there is no need to be sure about the first 2 slots. home match agaist real is now of uttermost importance. they are to steal at least one win from real.

the problem with efes is that they still do not look like a solid, balanced team. incosistent performances from the key players rako, thornton and even sometimes i may say tunceri and the presence of average players wisni, roberts and murray may always create problems especiallly in away games. btw, gonlum and tunceri shined tonight. and of course offensive rebounds set the stage for an efes win. but, they should have been able to finish the job earlier in the final quarter against a pretty inconsistent partizan today.

for partizan, not much to say. they are really far from last year's performances. they looked in need of improving teamwork in defence. i don't get surprised if they can't even manage to have one win in the group...

efes isn't realy to much balanced team either, there isn't much individual quality in efes on some positions, especially under basket (vujo become to old and slow:( )....peras is taking almost 100% from this team (he said in croatian press there wasn't much room to operate as in club they said to him take it or leave it)

but roberts is 10 time better pick from peras then any 1mil euro center ataman had...not a star, but great role player

Žalgiris fans have chosen a subtile way to tease Oly:

That's true. With old Vujcic, never-used Dudley, injured Radujlica, Efes is left with Kerem Gonlum and Roberts only, which is an extremely narrow bigman rotation for a Top16 team.

As i said previously, Efes is kind of rebuilding since last year (no youngsters yet, it's more of a team structure change) and Top16 is already an achievement for this team. Next step wouldn't be bad, but I don't think they will get there.

We will get f8 this season I have been watching Efes since I was born and This year we get f8. Im sure. Murray will make more contribute, and Efes will be stronger team in next weeks.

All the problems of Žalgiris are because of this guy

It's not the players or the coaches that should be blamed.

If i,m not mistaken, this "petty tyrant" just saved BC Zalgiris from bankruptcy. Imho, with this need to be considered. At least a little bit...

IMO, Žalgiris would have survived without him. Of course, they wouldn't have as much cash, maybe they wouldn't even play in the Euroleague, but at least they'd be a basketball team and not this circus that we see now...

Disciplinary judge’s decisión, Lottomatica Roma-Union Olimpija Ljubljana

Barcelona, January 27, 2010. Euroleague Basketball's independent disciplinary judge has dismissed the protest concerning clock malfunction during the last play of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 Week 1 game between Lottomatica Roma and Union Olimpija Ljubljana. The protest was filed by Lottomatica Roma with regards to its final attempt to score. After having evaluated all the necessary information, the Independent judge states in his final decision:

"It is certain that the members of the refereeing team clearly explained the circumstances which led to their final position in connection with the valid end of the game. They took their decision only after evaluating all the parameters, including the ‘game clock incident’. Their decision was certainly not the result of an arbitrary choice and was obviously not based on an unfounded evaluation of the situation. The field referees were aware of the situation and, notwithstanding the technical malfunction, decided to validate the final score. They have taken an informed decision and there is no evidence of an eventual breach of impartiality, which could be inconsistent with the principles of justice and fairness as provided by article 2 of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Regulation.”

"As a result, the Disciplinary Judge considers that his intervention in the present matter is not justified, as there is no regulatory base allowing him to overrule or re-examine the field referees' decision, which is final.”

What we discussed a while ago in this topic, I think?

I,m sorry man, but i think you're a little bit cunning when you said, that if Zalgiris wouldn,t have as much cash as they have now they most probably would be a basketball team without "circus tricks". It,s just empty words.
Look, where is a frequenter of the euroleague Benetton Treviso now? Exactly, in the eurocup. And in fact, i can,t see the start and end when the glorious italian club will return to europe's premier club tournament. They are STILL in the swamp.
Btw, i think it,s quite curious, can you ask other Zalgiris fans what eventually they would prefer to see "the real team" in eurocup or the current circus in TOP 16 in the euroleague?...

It's better to be winning in Eurocup than losing all 6 games in the top 16 of Euroleague. And if Romanov continues to intervene in coach's job, that may happen.

He did the same with his other toy - Heart of Midlothian F.C, but in football you can't make as many substitutions as you want, so his impact wasn't so dramatic. Yet he released a coach, when Hearts were 11-0-0 in Scotish league... I'm telling you - the guy is crazy.

Off-topic, but: seeing how crazy mr. Romanov is, I'm now kinda scared to have an account in Ūkio Bankas. :) I hope that he handles his business more professionally than he handles his toys.

Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul v Power Electronics Valencia

Game will be on TV in African Continent. Now this is a good reason to celebrate:D

Every now and then, here they decide to put a Euroleague game on tv and somehow this is the second game of Fenerbahces in a considerably short time. Best of luck to my team and lots of fun to fans of Fenerbahce.

Congrats to Efes for yesterdays victory.

I agree with you that his intervene in coach's job seems ridiculous, but who knows, maybe he has so much heart ache for Zalgiris, that his head begins to fail sometimes?...:)

Well, he seems to have this vision, where everyone plays almost equal amount of time, the team wins, everybody stays fresh, the youngsters improve and he can sell them. But it doesn't work like that: actually, players lose their motivation, number of turnovers increases dramatically, the team becomes predictable, bad players stay on court and the fans are unhappy. And then Romanovas gives some kind of crazy paranoid interview, where he accuses everyone of conspiring against him and Žalgiris (some (minority) of Žalgiris fans are still buying it - they'll believe anything that says that Rytas is evil :) ). It's often impossible to understand, what the hell is he talking about...

If you saved somebody a live, that doesn't mean that you can kill him after that yes? Romanov saved Zalgiris from bankrupt, but now he killing Zalgiris slowly.
