Vow,i mean where is it coming from?
As a bb fan i would prefer it twice a year )
But seriously - even if it is not a football where all the stars are attending 100 percent and with every decent team seems to be missing at least 2 -3 top players each time around - but yet it gives the opportunity to shine for younger ones.Suspense is there as well as fighting spirit.
Now regarding the place -i am sure that Russia or Ukraine can manage it somehow.Or Latvia and Estonia, especially if Fiba would lower their demands for the fee.

No no no, no 4 year format please. I want a major tournament every year, it's okay the way it is right now.

Besides Slovenia, which is still slighty interested, Great Britain and Greece declared interest if FIBA decreases demands.

Can't you just love politics... I hope that cocain sniffing barbie of our prime minister would finaly get institutionalised once and for all...

The cocaine sniffing Barbie of our prime minister is going to meet with Nar Zanolin the Secretary General of FIBA Europe on Wednesday to discuss the solution of Eurobasket 2013 in Slovenia. I guess Barbie got a little bit afraid of negative public response which he got after his government declined to give the money for organization of this event.

I just hope this is not one of his "smoke granades"...

Venues will be known untill the mid-end february.
Stožice is meant for the 2nd stage and final rounds. As for 1st round Celje is a sure thing, I believe Novo Mesto with a new arena as well, while for the rest Jesenice, Maribor, Koper, Ptuj will compete. All of those have substantial hotel capacities in it's vicinity.

This should be EC with by far biggest attendance. Games of all other 5 ex-Yugoslavian cuntries will be packed, same Italy, Germany is bare 3 hours away from Ljubljana, Lithuanians and Latvians are always there...
Italy playing in Koper, Croatia in Novo Mesto... c'mmon... we'd need a 20.000 seated arenas for that... :p

Our federation should sell bigger percentage of 1 game-only tickets compared to previous EC's when vast majority were sold in packages for more games combined. Otherwise situation with attendance might be hilarious when you'd have few out of most attended NT's in the same group

Congrats to Slovenians.

Jordi thinks that Stožice isn't good enough for EL final four, so Stožice will host EB 2013

Too bad Israel doesn't host anything bigger then Eurobasket Division B for U16 Women :D

When did he say that? When he was here last week he said that Stožice Arena is perfect for Final Four of Euroleague in the future and will definitely consider this venue.

What is situation in your country with bb arenas?
will you have to repair old or build few new ones?
And what are capacities?

I don't know exactly where was it, but during the visit he said for one of the media, that Stožice are definately one of the candidates for organising an euroleague F4, too bad they don't have a bit bigger capacity (hey... I actually agree with Jordi on something  ), but as far as euroleague F4 goes Beograd and Zagreb might (politicaly correctly said for: "do") have an edge in the region for organising a F4 in the near future. More of a geo-political issue than a matter of suitability of the arena... and nothing we couldnt solve with some old school mafia

As said previously the organising cities weren't selected yet, they've got 3 months of time to prepare plans for facilities.
-Ljubljana will definately host the 2nd and final round in Stožice (13.000 capacity)
-Celje is a 99% host of an 1st round group with 6000 capacity Zlatorog arena...
-Tivoli arena (LJ) is in reserve (supposed to be renovated and expanded to 8000 capacity untill 2012)
-Novo Mesto, Ptuj and Maribor are planning new facilities (with 5000-5500 and Maribor reportedly ranging from 6.500-8.000)
-Koper wants to renovate their arena but that reportedly still wouldn't fit the standards, might get it due to their vicinity to Italy and hotel facilities.
-Jesenice wants to get in the competition with hockey arena, after aready planned renovation the supposed capacity is around 7000... but it's the ugliest, most socialistic sport venue ever, that would make 90% of Slovenian bball fans deeply embarased in case one 1st round group would play there.

Koper, Novo Mesto, Maribor, Jesenice and Ptuj will clash for 3 hosting cities and I guess the best will be chosen untill end of February.

He said this for the press, but I can tell you that he was more than impressed and actually thrilled about the arena after and before the game. He came to the press conference (where the questions were asked) right from the hotel, so he didn't even have the chance to see it "in action". After having a tour after the press conference and during the game, he said to his photo crew to take as much photos from the whole arena (VIP, lounges, halls, inside/out) because Stožice Arena are, in his opinion, so far the nearest to the example how a great Euroleague arena should look like.

Hahah so true lol. The sad part is that they actually will most probably have the second biggest arena in Slovenia lol.

May be we can tell people the venue is in Kranjska Gora, and then at game time we blindfold them and take them by bus to the Podmežaklja arena lol.

nice to hear that, although I still wouldn't mind just a little bit bigger capacity.

To be honest as far as F4 goes I believe Belgrade is in front of LJubljana however you look at it... than there's got to be one city from the "west" again, Lithuania never hosted it neither...Turkey seems enthusiastic... with Sinan Erden and Fenerbahce's results I wouldn't wait too long with a F4 over there... (than it's some "western venue" they'll squeeze in again)... so the competition is actually really harsh, no matter the infrastructure.
Imho Istanbul, Kaunas, Beograd, maybee Zagreb are in front of Ljubljana when it comes to who's turn it is for F4... as much as I'd prefer it the other way around :)

:D lol
I honestly doubt they can renovate it properly, to pass Fiba's evaluation.

Also I can't wait for Škofja loka's major to point out they'd be happy to host an EC group in Poden :D (of course, "how yes no")

Zagreb and Beograd are never in front of Ljubljana, like it or not, they are even more in debt than Ljubljana city. The city municipality has to pay to Euroleague the sum to host the event, not the country or sponsors (around 1-2M€, its negotiable, Euroleague then organizes together with local organizers, the event itself).

In my opinion Ljubljana is ideal to host EL F4 in the future. It's basically in geocenter of Europe, easy acccesable, great hotels, good standard and if we manage to keep Olimpija Ljubljana in Euroleague and keep it stable and at least top8 contender in the future, I see no problem hosting F4 of EL once in next years.

One of the venues of Eurobasket should be in Kranj. It would be way better to make an arena there than in Ptuj, it's a nice city and lets say a centre of Gorenjska region. They deserve a new arena there much more than they deserve it in shithole like Jesenice/Ptuj. Also lets not forget that a great number of Slovenian top athlets come from Kranj, Jesenice, Bled, Kranjska Gora, etc.

Why Stožice can't host one of the groups in 1st round too? Fiba rules?
