Gabe Norwood, if he plays good this coming July!:)

as of now, I think only Mark Caguioa has the talent to make it in the NBA .... unfortunately, he's already in the late 20s and is a mere 6-ft tall. He would be lucky to get a 10-day contract (to ride the bench). I believe we have the best guards in Asia but the absence of our best teams in the international competition took its toll in the chances of being scouted by sports agents in the NBA. With the NBA expanding its market in Asia (thanks to Yao Ming), a Pinoy cager might soon make it if we continue to send our best players in FIBA tournaments and we should grab this opportunity. I think a tall (6-3 or 6-5) young (22yrs below) guard or a taller version of Caguioa would do.

Sure. NBA star wax, hardcourt floor polisher.

"Johnson ata yan..Tumatagaaaal!" :D

I agree!... even if the country fail to qualify to 2008 Beijing Olympics... the current basketball program should be continue for the 2010 World Championship and 2012 London Olympics... and who knows, 15-20 years or maybe less... from now... a Filipino playing in the NBA!

If rey parks keep on improving and growing. About Caguioa yes he can but it's too late for him he's nearing 30's. Maybe "the Iverson of Asia"...

yes...:D

not now but in the future:D I hope:D

nothing is impossible:D

as of date... I can see Gabe Norwood as the closest among Filipino players of being an NBA player:D

not yet, just have the bball program stable and continue to improve in phil. but i see within the next decade or so. definitely not a wingman, sg, mmm it would be undersized sg. but 1 or 2 spot. and be definitely a good ball handler. because if the old boss's are still around then they by nature are paranoid of foreigners running the point unless its some really proven player who gets on/off court status in the world.

kapatid kuyog ang aabutin mo nyan..

trans : lets support the team

Agree. Nobody in the current rosters in NT or any PBA Teams has an NBA qualities. Mark is not even close to it. Not now but in the next 5 to 10 years, Philippines will be able to send 1 or 2 cagers to the NBA. We have a lot of promising young talents under our roof. Given proper training and excellent basketball program, we can have some sort of an idol from NBA we can call our own.

We have the skills and the gppd understanding of the game. The only missing ingridient is the height.

If Johny A is around 6'5", no doubt he would have made it to the NBA.
If you add another 5 inches more to Caguiao, he could have ade it too.

All is missing is the Height. Height. Height.:D

vlad better start telling everyone to lay off the fish and rice and just start slaughtering cows, pork, and chicken.

yeah.. but make sure to bring the six-footer ladies...otherwise we would end up having the same circus team as before....

and also make sure to clean the ladies well b4 u serve them for dinner... they are not as good as the petit pinay... hehehe:D

Wait until 5-10 years to see the 1st ever full-blooded filipino to struff his wares in the NBA. He must be a swingman who has the height, strength, athleticism, outside jumpshot and quickness to make it in the NBA...

hey guys..watch out..Gabriela might be here in the forum in a while to protest...:D

a half filipino might it make faster if grew up and was trained abroad but a local talent born, trained, and raise here my bet would be 20-50 years from now. i dont' think filipinos will be as athletic as the african americans...pg's might have a better chance of making it and sg's must be really good shooters to make it. we might as well try what the chinese have done...using international rules to train their players.

we've been trying to play the nba game for more than 30 years now and no one has ever made it. this is the right time that some changes have to be made and it has to be geared towards international competition.

about the title..Filipino being an NBA star? hmm..pwede siguro. pero right now e Filipino being in the NBA muna ang issue, tapos when Filipinos get there e di saka na natin isipin kung may magiging star ba sa kanila. :)

they look for investments, someone who is not yet on his prime, si Mark Caguioa e pwede pa humabol kung saka-sakali, basta di pa siya 30+ pero for him to be recognized e kailangan umabot muna ang RP team sa World Championship or sa Olympics at dun siya magpakitang gilas. :) to be realistic, right now, si Gabe Norwood ang may chance makapasok sa NBA, since his team George Mason University is an NCAA Final-Four team, and he is considered to be a sixth man of the team, malabong hindi sya marecognize if ever. Saka, its his goal naman talaga, to make it through the NBA.

It took 20 years for Argentina's program to land a good player in the NBA. Don't expect it to be faster for a country with height issues and a lower quality lever.
