Calling All Filipino Forumers

I'm planning to a start a new petition for us Filipinos... its a petition to FIBA that we Filipinos support the one and only basketball governing body in the Philippines.. and that is the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP)!... We want to tell them that SBP has achieved so much for the last two years compared to BAP's dismal achievements between 1988 to 2005... thats almost 20 years and we had enough..

I made this thread so that I can ask you my fellow Filipino forumers and friends... its time for us to put down our hatchets and swords.. and stand UNITED... against our true enemies... the illegitimate BAP and its officials...

With the recent so-called FIBA "Special Commission"... I smell another suspension... and for us... another suspension is UNACCEPTABLE... We will not accept it.. FIBA doesn't know that a suspension will hurt not only the SBP and the basketball stakeholders that support it but also the Filipino people.. we are not just in the Philippines... we are everywhere..

Its time for us to unite, no more quarrells and arguements .. I want you guys to post your ideas here.. anything you want to be included in the petition... don't be shy... in this fight.. no realist, no patriots, no newbies, no old-timers, we are all in this together... We're all Filipinos!

My plan is to start a new petition and get as many signatures as we can... the minimum target is 1,000,000 signatures and the possible maximum of 5,000,000 .... this is to show FIBA we are serious... and once we get enough signatures... we'll draft a letter and send to FIBA and to all friendly basketball federations around the world... and tell them that we need their support.. and tell FIBA that we Filipinos support and recognize the legitimacy of SBP..

Cheers!

A good argument would be to use the one posted by sir Nardy on the thread BAP is finally gone!!!

then why didn't the FIBA leadership suspend the Japan Basketball Association (JABBA or JBA) or create also a fact-finding mission when up to now the JABBA still only recognizes the Japan Basketball League (JBL) when the FIBA said they should
also recognize BJ-league (Basketball Japan League) for the unity of Japanese Basketball.

FIBA promotes unity between Japan's leagues
By ED ODEVEN and KAZ NAGATSUKA
Staff writers

Desperate times call for desperate measures, someone once said. And it's safe to say these are desperate times for the Japan Basketball Association.

How desperate?

Making separate trips from Switzerland and Australia, two basketball bigwigs paid a visit to Tokyo this week to meet with top leaders of the much-maligned JBA to help lay the groundwork to end the mind-numbing impasse that exists between the Japan Basketball League and the bj-league.

FIBA President Bob Elphinston, of Australia, and Switzerland's Patrick Baumann, secretary general of basketball's world governing body, arrived in town on Wednesday and were to depart on Friday. On Thursday, the men held a two-hour meeting with JBA's new executive board members, including secretary general Takashi Kiuchi and deputy president Yushi Samuro. (Prime Minster Taro Aso, who is the JBA's president, met with the FIBA leaders after the afternoon news conference.)

Since the bj-league was formed in 2005, it has not been recognized by the JBA, and bj-league players cannot try out for the national team. The JBL, the older, established league, is considered the nation's top league by the JBA.

This situation is clearly unfavorable to FIBA leaders only five months after the JBA's suspension was lifted by the Japan Olympic Committee. (In March 2008, Kyodo News reported, the JBA was suspended "for persistent infighting that has severely hampered its operations.")

"When you have this two-headed top competition, and half of the players of one (league) cannot participate on the national team, that is a problem for the Japan Basketball Association to resolve, and I think if they can resolve this that it will be very beneficial for the national team," Baumann told reporters during a Thursday news conference.

"What is the end solution? I think it's up to the Japan Basketball Association, (but) for us, the key solution is that there is a clear pyramid with one league at the top under the Japan Basketball Association.

"Then, and only then," Baumann said, this would mark the "start of a new JBA once this issue can somehow be resolved."

Samuro confirmed that bj-league and JBL officials have sat down to hold discussions in recent months, but didn't offer any specifics, didn't describe any progress being made in those talks and didn't reveal that there's a timetable for the bj-league's inclusion in the JBA.

Thus, it's no surprise that Elphinston and FIBA consider the JBA's present problem a pressing matter.

"They're here to see what's going on regarding the JBA, which is causing some fuss and what we're working on," Samuro said.

Kiuchi did announce, however, that the JBA realizes the significance of solving this identity crisis. Furthermore, he said JBA officials agreed with a reporter's observation that the bj-league, which will add its 13th team next fall, and the JBL are in the midst of an awkward situation.

"We're going to take proper actions regarding this matter for the best interest of the fans," said Kiuchi.

"We spent much of the meeting discussing the issues regarding the bj-league. We understand that this is a serious theme and is an important thing."

"While the attendance in the JBL is increasing, we recognize the bj-league is expanding in the number of teams. We'd like to do something about this situation, and as the only governing body of basketball in Japan, we'd like to rapidly and smoothly bring this issue in the right direction."

Baumann, for one, thinks the JBA needs to make this happen, but he cautioned that it won't be a FIBA mandate."

"What has to happen is not up to us," he said bluntly. "We have listened, we have our own opinion but I think at the end of the day this is a decision of the JBA."

But in a nation where basketball has always been a minor sport, a sport seeking to gain popularity and widespread popularity, the JBA clearly ought to take a more even-handed approach to this impasse.

Or as Baumann put it: "You cannot grow basketball if each of whatever party is playing his game in his own garden, and not looking at what's happening in the next or the other way around.

"If there is a league in the country, it has to be with the JBA, under the JBA."

I agree with the petition
down with BAP and it's useless leaders
I dont understand why FIBA is still siding with the BAP after decades of inadequacy, corruption and politicking with very few accolades and development of the Philippine basketball program.
Graham Lim is not a Filipino, he should be deported and he does not represent the Filipino people in anyway.

The SBP has been moving forward with a program and now we have so many national teams from youth teams, women's team and the men's NT. We never had this before with the BAP. All they would send to competition would be thier friends or cronies for them to have a vacation while the Phil team would be beaten to a pulp in all of these competitions.
SO FIBA WHY? WHY NOT GO WITH CHANGE AND MORE PROGRESS THAT THE SBP HAD IMPLEMENTED IN 2 YRS COMPARED TO DECADES OF INCOMPETENCE OF THE BAP?

This politics in FIBA, BAP and basketball is killing the sport we all love
there should be no place for Lim and the politicians in basketball and in FIBA
I hope all the efforts of the Philippines, PBA, SBP dont all go down the drain because of this

Thanks guys... I like the suggested arguments .. yes we should tell them how SBP introduced new system that BAP turned a blind eye... remember BAP used to send over-age players in the 70s and 80s...

if this is such a serious situation then why doesn't the philippines exercise some muscle?
get the government involved and even gloria...it is almost election and I'm if a candidate is able to save philippine basketball in ANY WAY possible than you can imagine how much more votes that can collect!!!!
Our country is one of the most corrupted, why don't we use that in our favor this time...sometimes nice guys finish last!!!

Thats dangerous if the government intervene.. we risk the country not only being suspended by FIBA but also by IOC... that means we are not allowed to compete to the Olympic Games in any sports...

Information Power! Post the details of this ugly tactics of some guys who are trying to destroy basketball in our country on your blogs, forums and other online bulletins and direct them all in this forum so that we can consolidate all of them.

This is unfair and unjust if FIBA really cares for basketball why don't they come to our own territory and see the results of SBP ( See for themselves ) it will taint the dignity and credibility of FIBA itself( as a governing body ). If this is a Power Trip they are the ones to be ashamed for themselves. Surely
! enough! ( Graham "Looser" Lim, GO Teng Kok (can't produce an Olympic medal on Athletics although we have the right talent and people on to it), Prospero " not so prosperous " Pichay). Calling Patrick Baumann (hope your looking and listening to this unjustified, biased manner) we need help very badly we need it big time. For awhile Carl Menky Ching is a lucky charm for us ( the draw ) but nevertheless a chameleon will always be a chameleon that goes with Dato ( its not our RP team's fault if his country won't make to FIBA ASIA world qualifying. Its a shoutout for me

does fiba even know the obvious that graham is not a filipino citizen and should have already been deported ? Does FIBA rules state that only a citizen of the country can represent that country ? If that is the case, then FIBA should not even talk to graham since he is not a filipino citizen. Does FIBA know of the crime and mafia connections of his friend ? Did SBP already pursue this line of attack in letting FIBA and IOC know what Graham is a not a filipino citizen, and that the Philippine supreme court has already rule he should be deported?

I'll add that info to the petition... for now.. .I can't really answer your questions.. I'm just collecting infos to draft the petition... cheers:)

Don't forget to list the horrible teams the BAP sent to FIBA tournaments in the past. The team that I'll never forget was the PCCr team sent to the 2004 stankovic cup. Just to give you an idea, here's how our country performed:

Kuwait 88, Philippines 66
India 111, Philippines 93
Japan 106, Philippines 46
Syria 96, Philippines 65

Damn thats embarrassing... especially the first two...

Fight fire with fire and get the filipino mafia involved. We can't always be so nice and accomodating, that's how we ended up being colonized by almost everybody and look what happened...indios poor and at the bottom while foreigners and chinese rich and at the top and we have ourselves partly to blame for letting it happen and not coming together...too many stabbing in the back.
Evidence? look at the forbes richest filipinos, where are the real filipinos on the list?
Almost all foreigners with exception of manuel villar and a couple others.

Count me in...

Parang awa nyo na, tigilan nyo na ang SBP! Translation: For the love of God, stop meddling with the SBP!

I hope Graham Lim, Go Teng Kok, Prospero Pichay, as well as Carl Ching Menky and Dato Yeoh all burn in hell for their attempts to murder Philippine basketball!
