Worst coaches

Arlene rodriguez
Ely capacio
Bong Go

what? ely capacio as one of the worst coaches? lol
fyi, he gave purefoods its first ever afc crown after 3 coaches before him (mon fernandez, cris calilan and the legendary baby dalupan) failed to do so.
and that purefoods was not the strongest.

worst coach? definitely one of them is chito narvasa. lol
who else? adonis tierra. itoy esguerra. and many more.

ooops, i just read that ryan gregorio has been included in the worst list. definitely he is not now. he is a good coach now. lol

Ely was never a good coach, other than the 1991 All-filipino Crown, he replaced turo valenzona as tanduay coach back in 1987 3rd conference, and the rhum makers finished last, after leading Purefoods to its first all-filipino title, the hotdogs were booted out of the semifinals the next two conferences.

And his bold prediction of an easy series against Sarsi backfired, a careless statement along with his ruin-ins once with Nelson Asaytono during the first conference of the '91 season, Purefoods won a title under him because of the players and not because he was a good tactician.

from '88-'90, Purefoods has a strong lineup but they lacked experience, against the teams they played in the finals, in '91 they were more experience and its still a strong team, heavily-favored against Diet Sarsi but nearly fell into upset ax.

Choosing the best coach/es in the Philippines is not exactly a taxing effort, as there are only a limited few who have really and truly excelled. On the other hand, the more daunting task is to name the worst coaches, for there are a dime and a dozen.

Here's my list:

Best:

1. Ron Jacobs
2. Herr Silva
3. Baby Dalupan
4. Tommy Manotoc (circa 70's and early 80's)
5. Norman Black
6. Bill Bayno
7. Tim Cone
8. Dante Silverio
9. Ed Ocampo
10. Joe Lipa

Worst:

1. Alfrancis Chua
2. Arlene Rodriguez
3. Francis Rodriguez
4. Johnny Tam
5. Boysie Zamar
6. Luigi Trillo
7. Dong Vergeire
8. Virgil Villavicencio
9. Allan Caidic
10. Bong Go

Purefoods won a title under him because of the players and not because he was a good tactician.

lol then mon fernandez, your idol it seems, could have led the hot dogs to its first ever pba title in its first conference because that team was one of the strongest in its franchise history.

:) yeng guiao is the best because no superstar no problem

Hands down....the WORST COACH is Yeng Guiao !!! With all the superstars in Powerade....he let the Philippines down big time with all the routs that we experienced against a lot of Asian teams...it was a big embarassment.....he lost to almost 30 points from a bunch of college players (Smart Gilas)...the only way he could win a championship is that if he can get a very good import.

Yeng Guiao is the worst of all coaches!!!

Nah.. Yeng Guiao is the best in getting out the best in his players.. Powerade is an exception but not to Baguio and Miller.. BTW, he coached this two guys before in Red Bull right??

The worst should be Bogs Adornado..

Would you say that Yeng's coaching performance was only measured during his stint with the Powerade 2009 RP team and not his overall coaching success in Philippine basketball?

Yeng Guiao is one of the Best Coaches in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), if not the best. And right, he is a very good motivator, gets into his players skin and get them to respond according to what he wants one way or another. His multiple PBA Titles is a proof to this.

But I cannot say the same thing when we talk about Philippine Basketball in general.

in the PBA:
so far Jong Uichico is technically by the book good...but on the contrary, Yeng Guiao's unorthodox style of coaching is way better, I consider him the best in the PBA, he brings the best out of any player..he's passionate and has the biggest balls among the coaches in the PBA right now. his PBL counterpart was Junel Baculi, who always says the PI word to anyone who is "nagkakalat" on the floor.hehehe. Chot Reyes is good in terms of scouting especially internationally...the best for me.

worst??? hmm...who was that PBA coach who uses chalk in demonstrating plays? hehehe...his style is very barbaric..I hate that coach back in the 90's. lolz.

yeah coach yeng but in reality he rely mostly on imports...

That's part of being a tactician, I believe..maximizing what he had..he had a good import, he utilized it..that's good coaching from the game's general standpoint..We sure love to see the locals contribute heavily as well, but that's beside the point..He is a good coach, but history will judge him for his lack of sportsmanship and inability to bring the Powerade team to the WBC more than the PBA championships he won..

The worst should be Bogs Adornado..

I think Bogs Adornado is just not cut to be a head coach, he's more of a Patrick Ewing-type of coach or a skills coach and sort of a motivator to the players as seen in his role as assistant with the Philippine Patriots.

Ok history has been unfair to chot and yeng being tasked to carry a team in a more competitive field than their counterparts:D:D

very unfair:D

Worst:

1. Alfrancis Chua

if i remember it right. he won a championship for sta lucia with ansu sesay as import...

the guy who always fix his hair. even though its pony tailed and all. :o
