lol, so LA said that the reason for non fil-am shows is the school schedule. Well let's just believe it anyway.

atleast if that is the reason, there will be no bitter judgement at the end of the fil-ams for getting snubbed

though it does not really translate to the fact that Josh had able to bring fil-ams that were literally half of the team for the U16 2022, and 2023
Not buying his answer.

Maybe that was partially true of the two they picked. But their parents were aware ahead of time, and the schedule was likely just one factor.

But I'm pretty sure there were at least 5 or 6 Fil-Ams in Las Vegas that would have been significantly better than ant of the kids currently on the team. Maybe more. Some would have been willing of schedule was the only issue.

Typical smc pr response, always with the alibis, atleast chot was man enough to own to some of his mistakes

Out of the filams in the camp i do think two or three players max will make difference..it become heat of the moment reaction because the way we lose against bahrain ( taiwan prove to be real defeating waba u16 champs ylebanon)

Want instant global.solution.. hire naturalized players thru african imports ( which we are getting now in hs level)

The magnolia gig is a heat of the monent move by chualay that affected youth team altogether, Norman Black couldve handled the program since he is the director for player developement and Richard Del Rosario is one of Norman's player back in his playing days.
from a viewer POV, Richard Del Rosario seemed to be the one tasked to coach, but the players did not respond to him in the 1st game, so LA coached the rest of the way.

chalk up the losses LA!

Ok at least josh reyes took the losses in stride...
Wow our youth basketball system, these guys are being required to practice at their hs teams.. whats time left for them to go sleep and grow...

If the FilAms were unavailable even with little to no prep fine. But if its a practice thing, LA should think long term. Capping top talent is very important. More important than the results.

Why not tap Norman black as youth HC? He has no head coaching gigs as of the moment.. he is the only coach in the Philippines that can handle his job very well either professional ranks or college level...

I want to say when I say fundamentals I’m not talking necessarily about basic skills like shooting, dribbling and passing, I don’t think those are that bad but development is geared more towards local than international. Carino for example clearly has trouble dribbling because he’s not comfortable handling the ball compared to the shorter players and it’s obvious he doesn’t get many chances to handle the ball himself. Not necessarily that there aren’t world class trainers or skills coaches just more the development environment is holding him back

Another fundamental aspect I see is not necessarily basic skills but more the team stuff, basic things like boxing out, communication, cutting, off-ball stuff offense and defense are lacking. These are small things but a team like the Australia does really well, especially during the Asia cup

At a certain point, the level of competition here becomes a problem. A lot of players actually realize this so those who can leave do so. Youth development doesnt necessarily mean batang gilas, but rather a reality wherein the grassroots competition is at a high level.

Lets say that the homegrown players did practice a lot, while some random FilAm doesnt want to practice and just play. If that random FilAm is D1 quality, who cares if those that practiced feel bad? You have a D1 talent commited to Gilas and that in itself is a win and way more important than our results this tournament, which ended up awful regardless.

At the end of the day, we arent privy to negotations but I hope they gave the top talent the option to just show up in Mongolia.

Stupid reason, like we don't know it's not basketball season in the US,like the HS basketball coach would rather see his players play American football during fall season, rather than going to play for Gilas. The schools are very accomodating when it comes to their student athletes, they have programs for the athletes to catch up on studies.

According to some,Long Hair is a Chinese saboteur lol. He's playing the long game.

Chot, for all his antics, is man enough to admit his shortcomings.

I never heard Tab and Rajko going ballistic against fans. They rather admit their mistakes and be better than scolding a fan who was only asking a sensible question.

LA and Tim Cone have some extra words which is not ok considering how their teams performed.

Because we don't screen young players, do we?

When I was at Adamson several years back, I saw the practice of the junior's team. Many of the team, especially in the team B, should not be even considered playing basketball by reason of height alone.

In case you forgot SMC group is now in charge of forming the national teams. Naturally they will appoint coaches under their own umbrella which LA Tenorio (Magnolia) is currently part of.

Coach Norman Black is with Meralco and San Beda of the MVP coaching umbrella.

If Neil Purves and Rajko Toroman were still part of the SMC, they will be in consideration. Or are the coaching positions limited to Ginebra people?
