I'm still not over how Alas got hurt on the eve of the tournament. It was a golden opportunity to see how he measured against D1 level guys. If he wasn't up to it, it would have been a perfect opportunity for him to figure out what he needed to work on. And if he did well, it would have strengthened his confidence.

It feels like we have a D1 curse for our homegrowns.

Sir Mets,

that kid are dead serious on his D1 aspiration

i hope that sprained "litid" may not dampen his emotions along the way.

his Kuya had a very strong character despite multiple broken "litid" he doesn't change his character towards the game.

the kuya and the father are his role model.

The position of a HC in the youth teams should be a revolving door with a 3 year tenure,so that there's always fresh new ideas and up to date strategies for the upcoming players.

If I were in charge of Batang Gilas, my first move is to talk to Uytengsu and see if he is willing to sponsor and elevate our program. Think about it, he has no connections to any team currently so there will be no complaints.

If he passes maybe one of the richer MPBL teams wants in. Basically they need an angel to fund this thing the right way.

Being a God centered person like his Kuya Kevin will brig him to endless possibilities, Kevin Alas a guy who has acl injures for millionth yet still plays the same everytime he comes back and was pivotal in that china match..

Thoughts? Who might be it? Just an idea but it might be Chua or Banal, but it looks like its Chua because there is no way he is a world-cup caliber player (well all of them are not but deserving) but he is not really deserving of having a spot, not even asian-caliber. I was also wondering how did he get a spot even though he did not contribute in the past Asia tournament, but hey I might be wrong. This is the SBP's mistake because they let such thing as this happened.

I dont really trust Chino but when there is no budget, you have to find other ways to make things work. Such as extra spots for mid at best talent. Hopefully the money spent on bringing someone in the team was spend the correct way and not to send some of the old boys to Istanbul.

Chua probably. Because he previously had a team which his father paid all expenses for. Actually, I can take this. Out of 12 slots, giving 1 the EZ mil slot for budget purposes is okay I guess. We are a poor country. So if somebody sponsors an important youth tourney for one slot it's okay with me. But the Banal slot though. And was it Allegre who got the last slot. Allegre is decent but isn't there any taller wing out there?

I also some video that his Father caters some Jollibee meal after their practice so he might really sponsored the team. Well I don't have against that because as a father you just want your son to be there, but we are free to say that there is no way he deserves a spot because of how he plays. He is only known for scoring 100 pts in a milcu game and he doesnt even play in our high school scene. Alegre is a fil-am and from what I know he is one of the 3 tumakbo players who got a spot (Diao, Elemento as reserve). Also to answer your question, yes there is a 6'4 wing and that is Adrian Elemento who is the reserve, which is why I am wondering why the hell Josh did not pick him for the Alas spot knowing our height woes. Alegre played well in the Asia U16 actually, he was a vital piece of the system. I could say the Chua and Banal are the ones who don't deserve to get a spot for U17 because they did not do much help in the Asia U16 at all.

is this the reason why Chot is in Turkey? (been seeing a lot of IG posts)

I think it does not have something to do with Chot. He is just pasikat and always want to be included but he definitely can afford to go there without having a share in that sponsor thing.

Lol at the nepo player, I couldn't help but think that a barangay select team handled by Tiu, Nenad or Tab wouldn't do much worse than this team, having these middle-lower class kids would have more drive to prove something to nationalities they have never seen before. To consider that having a team that ONLY loses by 40 points on average is already a significant improvement over whatever this shit is is very wild to me. The bar is literally in the Marianas trench and there is nothing figurative or comedic about saying that, it will take a supernatural event to set the bar here even lower.

Losing to Spain by 50, Lithuania by 45 and PR by 30 would have our losing margin at 41 instead of 55. It's hard to believe our kids and the people handling them are this trash, it's nauseating

btw here's the Gilas U17 roster, seems like most of them came from upper middle class to class S upbringing. (based on their school affiliation). I rather blame the SBP for the mess since these are kids

The comments here said, they had to pay for their own transportation. They had to have money.

The youth program is underfunded.

It's true that this is bigger than these kids, it's just we are too individualistic as a culture. What possible reason is there to keep our youth program as a diy kind of shit? That just encourages money-based promotions instead of meritocracy, this is shit that people from the medieval era learned to avoid. Take a page out of China's government sponsored sports program if it means saving ourselves from embarrassments like this. It's crazy to think that a fkin u17 program is practicing trickle down economics instead of just balling lmfao

Thanks for the info. Forgot about Allegre's contributions. So who got Alas's spot? Chua was in the U16 IRC.

Jaime has either short arms or inflated height because the team really looks short when he is the PF. He doesnt look like the 2nd tallest guy in the roster. He looks significantly shorter than Daja and Morales. I think Morales looks a bit taller than Daja. But Daja has been the best player of this tourney so far. He does it all. But even he gets out"heighted" in the paint. Morales and Diao seems to able to bother more shots. Post defense though is different. Morales like most Filfors his height is weak in the post. Daja and the other homegrowns are better post defenders. Unfortunately, except for Daja they are too short.

yikes, but to be fair, they still qualified for the World Cup despite being underfunded. Sucks that SBP undermines the importance of youth teams/grassroots program.

Champ Arejola, he couldn't get minutes so basically no one replace Alas, Josh could have use the 6'4 Elemento instead so we could add some height but hey he really loves having small guys.
