2015 Greek Team

The next 2 games will give us a good indication of what we can expect in the official tournament.
Barring the unexpected, the mother of all battles will be the knock out game at the top-8 though.

This first quarter was quite impressive offence wise. It was like playing NBA2K.

It looks like the team has pretty clear first and second units:

1st: Calathes, Spanoulis, Antetokounmpo, Printezis, Koufos
2nd: Zisis, Sloukas, Papanikolaou, Kaimakoglou, Bourousis

2nd unit looks terrible today.

...but all the "experts" are sure that Kalathes-Spanoulis don't couple well. The "maths" prove it objectively:rolleyes:

Whats wrong with Kaimakoglou? Him and Printezis were our most stable players those last few years but so far in those friendlies he is a major disappointment. If anything Agravanis would have been more usefull

Katsikaris is not trying to build a good team but to distribute playing time, especially between the older players. So this is what we are seeing.

I fail to see how this team is going to do well in the tournament. I am not sold that it's just preparation games and we should expect major improvements. We don't look much like a team atm.

First quarter was impressive by Greece in offense and defense. Then the Turkish defense improved and we had difficulties to find solution on the offense, but we kept the score low thanks to our defense. Turkey didnt know how to penetrate the Greek defense and remained in the game thanks to big shots from Dixon and Mahmutoglu

Our two points percentage is very good all those games, it shows that we find a lot of solution inside the paint and that we don't hope to have good 3pts percentage to win the game.

weak points as always, the free throws and 3pts shots for Greece:/ and Kaimakoglou, Papanikolaou have to wake up. But we can't have all the players simultaneity good during one game bytheway.

I haven't been fully concentrated on the game only, but what I noticed in some short spans is that Greece seems to be forcing it's inside game and it wasn't neccesarily working all that well in that specific way, the ball cirulation is significantly slower than with most of the teams I've seen. As I've said, that might be just a matter of those 15-20 offenses I paid attention to or particular lineups, but this team should do noticably better than this.

We're getting there, slowly but surely.
Half court defense was immeasurably better last night than in previous games. Even Koufos was good.
The 3-pt shot was not falling, but they were good shots. The same players made 11 threes one night earlier.
The second unit was indeed mediocre, but i expect players such as Sloukas, Perperoglou, Kaimakoglou, and Papanikolaou, to step up. At the moment, all of them look tired and heavy-legged. Bourousis had a below-par game, and Mantzaris didn't play at all.
Antetokounmpo makes it look like we have 6 players on the floor. I'm impressed with his shot selection and playmaking more than anything.
Ilyasova only shot 3-17 against Printezis.
To me, the most impressive player is Spanoulis. it looks like he has accepted his role, and makes the whole team tick. Some of his assists have been ridiculous. Especially Koufos would be lost without Spanoulis.
Turkey's defense will be a formidable weapon in Berlin. That said, Greece totally destroyed their pressing game in the first quarter.
Nice to see 10,000 people in a friendly game in Athens, without an ounce of jingoistic patriotism against the Turks.

Very smart idea by Katsikaris to play Papanikolaou in first unit today. This will help Pap improve his form by playing with the best of his teammates. And now the 2nd unit get immediately stronger by having Antetokounmpo in it.

Pap, Perperoglou and especially Kaimakoglou ( i still think Agravanis would have been better from this Kaimakoglou who seem totally lost ) need to improve their form. Printezis and Ante alone in the forwards line
Rebounding once again a big problem . Only 12 rebounds to 24 for Lithuania

I liked the way we played this game. Rebound and FT problems we responded well when LT took the lead and responded well on the end as well
Something i noticed is that when Sloukas plays that good the whole team is one level better

this giannis frenzy is getting silly. The last possession was not a block for giannis but two points for the Lithuanians. Bad referring, awfuller speaker, nice game.

I think it was clean block. It was very close though. In NBA they never call goaltending on these occasions...

Kaimakoglou is in very bad shape the whole preparation. He cant make a shot. He cant post. He is too slow. If Katsikaris didn't have the serious problem with Mavrokefalidis I think he would have gotten him instead.
Hell even Agravanis would have been better than current Kaimakoglou...

Zisis on the other hand is surpricely in great shape!

Mantzaris is clearly the best option for our 5th guard.

I think this Greek team is going to be much better defensively than last year. They need to build on that.

Another thing is that this Greek team is very unpredictable. Any player can do the job at any moment. The truth is that some players are still a bit rusty, but I expect they will find the opportunities to get in shape and gain confidence. This we have seen today with Sloukas.

Calathes,Antetokounmpo and Printezis played great. Nick scored a big three pointer in the last minute
