alapag was so out of sync that he did not play for 2 games.

david actually played well in d 2 games except for those bricked 3s in d first game. but so did the likes of blatche, ramos, etc.

as we need shooters more than facilitators, i'd say david will make it in d final 12 while alapag will be cut.

David scored ok but didn't play well. He'll give you 2-4pts then give the opponent 3-5 open looks. He's not only getting abused because he's small and un-athletic, he was so lost on defense that he is often seen 10-15ft away from his man

Dondon struggled offensively but atleast he played good D

Estonia players reminds me of ukraine. Tall, can shoot the ball, good ball movement and are athletic to boot.

instead of pushing for something that is already loss, we should be asking why larry was not at least given a chance in the pool given the lack of 3-pt shooting in the pool.

He wasnt allowed by MVP :) :) :)

we really had no chance vs Estonia. They shot the ball really and they still shot well even on well contested 3pt shots.

Iceland meanwhile was a winnable game. Its nice though that we played 3 teams with different styles. Netherlands uses a lot of ball movement and played like a well oiled machine and had a post scorer. Estonia has shooters at every position. Iceland played with energy and scrappy D and punished us everytime we make lazy passes

I agree. Gary D. is a huge defensive liability. In many of those instances where an Icelandic player beats someone off the dribble, finds himself unmolested for an open three, or cuts to the basket to receive a bounce pass and make a layup, the guy left unguarded was Gary's man.

In those 3 games ,abueva has more production than dondon, thoss and david combined lmao

MVP doesn't care as long as he puts that TAB and Jimmy show on the road - and, SMC doesn't care either, as long as they are not an unwilling, but paying participant for that show.

This standoff is sickening, it's just basketball, for crying out...

now this really confused me. who really put TAB on the gilas coaching job.. was it MVP or the sbp stakeholders which includes the PBA. you are putting words in our mouth and preaching it as truth..c'mon, lets not tell half truths here. its still lying to do so..and for jimmy, i am not sure if mvp put him there..all i know is that jimmy put himself in that situation with Tab's approval. i did not read or hear mvp putting him there. same as i did not hear or read Ramon Bu Ang prohibiting smc players to gilas team. however, due to flipflopping of the players, it easy to conclude that it was smc management's hand prohibiting them..the only correct part you said was the last sentence, which is the standoff is sickening.

Whats funny?

The guys he's taking fun of would might be heroes come September.. Basketball is a team sport..I like Calvin contributions but also he should remember that him alone can destruct the whole team more than the 11 players combined if he don't control his emotions..

dondon and gary were both beaten by the guards of the d opposing teams. ditto with romeo. our best bet for defending d sgs of d other teams is abueva. but that would mean limited 3-pt shooting.unfortunately, we really do not have a 2-way player among our guards. we cannot have it all. our so-called good defenders should do a better job of covering for d weakenesses of d not so-good defenders whose offense we need badly.

and defense alone wont win us games. i dont think we'll win d knockout games in china with gabe playing good defense but scoring zero in 25-30 minutes. he need to be more assertive in offense and needs to take care of d ball more. his poor plays led to a lot of turovers.

but i still feel that we have enough time to be in top shape come d main tourney in china.

dont expect too much in d jones cup. we dont want to peak to soon.

asi is there to control him hehe...

what do u expect? those 3 guys are past their primes even in d pba.

dondon has gone from an all-star and solid starter to a dependable role player off d bench.

thoss is still a starter becos of his size and skills but his game has declined significantly since the year alaska last won a championship. even d 70-year old taulava puts much better numbers than him.

david is still one of d top scorers in d league but his game is miles away from what he use to do when he was with coke/powerade.

of course, we'd rather have lassiter, chan, lee, and even fonacier than dondon and gary. but they are not even in d pool. so we need these aging veterans. lets just hope that they are able to contribute when the real games start.

David used to be a pretty good defender and slasher in his air21 days, heck he was even included in the all defensive first team in 2007, now he is nothing more than an additional body due to the lack of players on our pool.

his post-practice jokes are significant enough for him for the final 12.. kidding aside, let us not make fun of those in the pool. all of them made sacrifices and its not easy being part of the pool especially if your not getting any younger. let us just appreciate their efforts and continue to support gilas.

I think Gilas 3. is just 60 % of its peak for Sept FIBA Asia. just having Ranidel , who to me is actually our best shooter from the forward spot is big upgrade. Blatche losing another 10 plus pounds is feasible.
Team is still at the early stages of learning Tab's defensive schemes. This to me is what this team will be known for (Defense) it will be their identity. And we actually have the personnel to play good scarpy defense.
While we really don't have our best players and preperation time is limited. I actually see us as a darkhorse to win this all.

We don't have to keep repeating that Gilas is still learning Tab's system, we have to be patient, coach Tab knows what he's doing, he's been there and done that, now we as Filipino basketball fans should just relax and enjoy some beautiful basketball games coming ahead of us.
