2013 Philippine U16 NT

Good day for Philippine basketball yesterday.

For our U-16 team in the FIBA-Asia U-16 Championship, winning it's opening game vs. Kazakhstan was really significant as it gives the team the momentum it needs for the next games. I think the Taiwan vs. Kazakhstan game was also close, so expect a Philippine vs. Taiwan game to be also close. We are already qualified for the 2nd round of the elimination and will face Japan, Jordan & India. I'm confident we'll make it to the quarterfinals. Question is, kung pang ilang pwesto tayo going into the quarters. Of course we want to avoid China, Korea & Iran in the quarters, so we have to top group CB in order to face the No.4 team of group AB. I think medyo mahihirapan tayo in emerging as the No.1 team in group CB because Japan I think is very very strong. I think Jordan & India are very beatable. Jordan, despite its reputation as a basketball powerhouse in Asia, isn't really that competitive in the "youth" level. In fact Jordan would not have qualified for this tournament if Lebanon wasn't suspended by FIBA.

If we beat Taiwan tonight, then medyo gaganda chance natin to do well in this tournament.

Actually, Taipei bet Kazakhstan by 27 points. Hope we can do well against TPE though :D

Probably the most heated match of the competition ends with all 4 Philippines players fouled out & China winning 20-0 as a result #3x3U18

Bad news from Jakarta on the FIBA U18 3X3 where we were 3-0 win-loss record together with USA before our game vs China. As per FIBA 3X3 "the most "heated" game in the tournament just happened between Philippines and China with all 4 Filipinos fouling out. Kaya China won daw 20-0."

"Haaaay kakainis we lost kse fouled out lahat ng boys 13 tayo 12 China mag isa nalang si Arvin tinawagan pa sya ng foul 9 secs to go. Grabe!" - frm mozzy ravena

^We lost again to Bulgaria with a score of 12-11.

Current standing for our 3x3 boys is at 3-2, almost a given that we're gonna lose against USA, so we need to beat Czech Republic to make it to the final 16.

Hopefully we can beat the Czechs as they aren't too big, 3 6'2"s and 1 6'8", definitely more manageable compared to the bigger Bulgarians and Chinese.

Lost to Bulgaria by 1

Our emotionally affected players had a hard time playing their game vs Bulgaria as they were thinking of the lost game vs China hours earlier which they could have won if Arvin Tolentino did not foul out with 9 seconds to go with us ahead 13-12.

Could not blame as these players are still kids, killing their emotions after just a few hours is really very difficult to do after a controversial loss they had.

Can anyone confirm how ties are broken? Is it win over the other or quotient system?

If it's quotient system in the event of a triple tie, which is most likely what will happen (we beat Cze, Chi beats Bul), then it's almost impossible for us because of the 0 we got from the Chinese game. We are currently -11/12 respectively. BUT if it's win over the other in the event of a 2-way tie, then we need to beat Czech Republic and for Bulgaria to beat China to be able to make it.

I would not count out our boys yet, they just have to get their game back and forget about the 2 loses just what they did in FIBA Asia where they lost their very 1st game (vs Qatar) but won all their succeeding games. FIBA Officials and Basketball experts in Jakarta are very impressed with Team Pilipinas, they said even though Team USA have more athletically gifted players who are also bigger, they say the Filipino Ensemble have a much better Basketball IQ all over the rest of the teams including the Americans. So an upset over Team USA is not impossible.

GO! GO! GO! PILIPINAS! BEAT USA!

It depends on how many teams are tied, if its 2 teams it'll be win over the other then if its 3 or more then its quotient. That 0-20 score to that default loss to China is huge in case we have them as a team we'll be tied with.
