Indeed. We will be in trouble if we count on Fotsis playing like he did tonight.

Overall Giannakis coaching was awful. The guy has to learn from his mistakes and prepare the team properly until next week when the real games begin.

Gianakis is doing just fine. He's trying out different systems and he is slowly showing some progress. Some of the players are not very motivated, but that's normal after a long season and such a short break. Besides, this game was against a team which they are going to play against in the qualifications. You can't show it all yet.

what do you think that the NT will achieve this summer?

I don't think they will disqualify from the qualifying tournament,
at the Olympic games they will manage to qualify to the quarterfinals, 4 teams out of the 6 of each group, that can't be so hard

so it all comes down to one single game, the quarter final!

winning that game, we have an instant success!
losing that game, well... some they would say it was failure, other would say it was just ok, but noone would brag that it was a success

Ela Kokkinos! Ti kaneis?
I'm not Greek but I personally think that people in Greece will be really dissappointed if their National Team doesn't qualify to the Olympics and here is why:
1) The games are being played on your courts so you have home court advantage.
2) The fans. No one can deny that the Greek fans will play a big factor. U guys love basketball and there will be huge crowds supporting ur team.
3) Greece is the top ranked team (Currently ranked 6th in the world) amongst all the other teams in the pre-Olympics.
4) U guys made it to the World Championship final after defeating the Dream Team so you've got everything it takes to do it again.
5) The essential players from the last World Championships are still available.
6) Giannakis is still one of the best coaches ever to coach the National Team.
7) Greece was unlucky in the last European Championships and the European Championships are much tougher than the pre-Olympics qualification.

Glyniadakis for the third time got very little play time! Seems to me that he will be cut!

Bou impressed me a lot again. He moves with the speed of light!

sport24.gr writes that Diamantidis feels some pain in the sole
http://www.sport24.gr/html/ent/168/ent.242168.asp

YEAH! Baby Shaks back!
and Papadopoulos and his HORROR show hook shots are no where to be seen. Now I can actually the first 5 min. of the Greek NT play! Hopefully Diamantidis gets better! They'll need him down the stretch

Vassilopoulos is a problematic player. He hasn't improved at all...so many mistakes and no dribbling skills at all.

I hoped the 170 kilos Sofo could play more than 10-14 minutes but this is out of question...he can't grab rebounds and makes so many offencive fouls

Is he back up to 170 kilos?

So far Spanoulis and Fotsis have taken over the team as I suspected they would have leader roles this time. But I was also hoping Zisis would step it up and become a leader along with them and Papaloukas and Diamantidis and nope still not happening.

Zisis and Vassilopoulos are a disappointment. Hyped a lot in Greek sports and yet it's not happening.

He was 155-160 in Japan. He is clearly more at the moment.

PS: I am starting to think there should be non-Greek refs in the Acropolis tournament. What is happening the last 2-3 years is not helping the team prepare for official games.

That's what I have been saying for a long time.
He is lucky that he has an entire Oly organization that promotes and pushes him.
If he was 19-20 years old I would understand why they were doing this, but the guy is aldready 24 years old. He will not improve that much anymore.

Perperoglou has more skills. Unlike Vasilopoulos, he can actually dribble and drive to the basket, but it doesn't seem like Giannakis trusts him.
It looks like Perperoglou is the third option at SF, behind Vasilopoulos and Pelekanos.

Well Giannakis loves athletes that can defend. I guess that is why he likes Vassilopoulos and Pelekanos so much.

Diamantidis/Papaloukas
Spanoulis/Zisis
Vassilopoulos/Pelekanos
Fotsis/Tsartsaris
Bourousis/Schortsanitis

Looks like Printezis, Perperoglou, and Tsaldaris fighting for the last 2 spots. I still think it might be a good idea to have a shooter like Tsaldaris available in the back court.

IMO Printezis will be included in the team.

Printezis has no idea about team defence. He'll be guarding his man even on the weak side all the time. Hell, you can even throw the ball at him and hit him on the back of his head, he'll never see it coming, he'll be guarding his man on the corner, outside the 3p line....

I would rather either one of Perperoglou or Tsaldaris right now.

You don't know what are you talking about. You better talk about players you've seen them more than 5 games.

PS. Papaloukas/Diamantidis
Spanoulis/Zisis
Vasilopoulos/Pelekanos/Perperoglou
Fotsis/Printezis/Tsartsaris
Bourousis/Shortsianitis

This will be the Greek NT in the pre-Olympic tournament, imho.
