I just read this article, and it mentions that the UAAP is considering Topex’s past behavior in deciding whether he should be punished for the recent incident.
I’m not sure if the article is poorly written or if they actually intend to use past behavior to judge this current case, but if it’s the latter, that’s absolutely ridiculous.
First, the past behavior happened in a different league, over which the UAAP has no authority. Second, it was from when he was still a player. There’s a statute of limitations for imprisonment, but not for this?
Most importantly, any conclusion on this case should be based on concrete evidence for this incident alone. Looking into someone’s past should only serve to provide context or character background, not to dictate the final decision. The UAAP should extend grace, as it feels like we’re reverting to the outdated idea that people can never be forgiven or change for their past actions.
This is all moot. Whatever UP wants, UP gets with this Board.
Let’s take a look at UP: they receive government funding to recruit highly sought-after players, poach talent from other teams, and have used questionable tactics like manipulating JD’s eligibility. They even cleared JD’s name by leveraging whoever owned the video of him trying to hurt Kouame. Now, they’re blatantly trying to get an opposing coach suspended based on an unfounded accusation, yet their fans still want to act like they’re morally superior? Enough with UP, seriously.

Also the govt funds thing is a slippery slope especially when it comes to DLSU and UP. The two most guilty teams but dlsu might be a little bit more at this point with how they moved recently
