The Joens Cup will be Evans tryout as ROS import this coming season, though Yeng has apprehensions of him passing the height limit

Should the Illinois native perform well enough, the champion mentor said that the team may consider him for the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

“Hopefully itong import na ‘to, kung maayos lalaruin, baka siya na rin ‘yung gamitin namin for the next conference in October,” he told the weekly Forum presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, MILO, Philippine Olympic Committee, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

“Pero, of course, subject to his performance siguro dito sa Jones Cup, and ‘di rin namin alam kung papasa siya sa height limit kasi listed ‘to na 6’10, 6’9″ lang ‘yung limit ng next conference natin for PBA imports.”​

Thats why the height limit of 6'10 is not an issue for me as most EASL participants imports are below it. Tnt and SMB have taller imports than other teams. Weird right

​​​​​​Spellman is still 6'9 and atheltic. In our region its good as a rim protector. Compare that to Beau Belga.

I think at this point it is just SMCs greed. It used to be 6’10 IRC. Josh Smith was slightly above 6’9 IRC. But with GSM sticking with Brownlee, a bigger import height limit lowers their chances.

ginebra won it even against 6'10 so where is the it lowers their chances? and brownlee won 2 commissioners cup as the shortest import so your analogy is moot, and like what i said ginebra should use a taller import this conference to build cohesion for easl tournament as there's an established chemistry with brownlee already

The import height limit is 6’9. So ROS Nick guy may not qualify. It baffles the mind why PBA is setting a lower height limit. Was the height limit 6’10 when they won? I dont think they could win against the good 6’10 and under imports, Josh Smith, McCullough, that other NBA guy. To me GSM winning against 6’10 imports with 6’6 JB says the imports could have been better.

Ginebra won in 2018 against SMB with Ronaldo Balkman and a peak Junmar, last year against Bay Area Dragons that has andrew Nicholson and a slew of big men and tall guards and wings, both of those championships the height limit is 6'10

Let talk about good teams with tall imports. Balkman I think is 6’6 without shoes. Imports like Josh Smith, Terence Jones, McCullough. Even a less skilled 6’10 import will give GSM some problems. Why even lessen it to 6’9? Bay Area is an exception and Nicholson is 6’8 but with long arms.

Won’t a 6’10 import help teams compete with BAD?

that was against Ginebra with slowter , with CS and good help defenders like Japeth, Malonzo and Brownlee to some extent even against teams with 6'10 imports they can still handle them, haven't you forget that it was CS who defended Jones well when he was with smb, plus ginebra beat a good and tall team like BAD with a 6'5 import then why single them out being favored by PBA for lowering the height limit by one inch, Ginebra fielding Brownlee in an import laden conference that has a limit of 6'9 or 6'10 has always been on a disadvantage winning 2/4 commisioners cup with Brownlee being the smallest import is not a bad feat, plus TNT will also field a shorter import this conference

Triple tear for Jeremiah Gray

The 26-year-old winger has received a devastating diagnosis of a ‘triple tear,’ resulting from injuries to his anterior cruciate (ACL), medial collateral (MCL), and posterior cruciate (PCL) ligaments. Gray is scheduled to undergo surgery later this month.

Initially, the diagnosis indicated that Gray had dislocated his right knee. However, a comprehensive MRI could not be conducted due to the accompanying swelling.

Last week, a piece of unfortunate news reached both Gray and Ginebra.

Cebu Landmasters interested in having a team according to Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy

Sy said he knows for a fact that the owner of Cebu Landmasters is very interested in joining the league, suggesting that exploratory talks be made.

"I welcome the (PBA) expansion. I know maraming interested diyan from the South. The PBA should open up the invitation," said Sy in a chat with Spin ph.

“Meron talagang lumalapit sa atin. May dalawang seryoso pero hindi ko alam kung tutuloy na dere-derecho kaya ayoko rin banggitin kung sino sila,” said Marcial when he guested in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum. “May nakikipag-usap, pero lagi namang ganun.”

Sy agrees with Marcial.

“Marami yan. There are a lot of prominent companies in the Visayas and Mindanao na willing naman. The PBA just needs to invite them,” he said.

At the same time, such move would allow the league to have more provincial games, and perhaps see the dawn of a home-and-away format.

Venues won’t be a problem as the KJC King Dome in Davao is set to be inaugurated later this year, while the SM Seaside Arena in Cebu will be finished in two years' time.

“At least isabay mo na yung pag-open ng dalawang venue para may flavor ng home-and-away,” the Blackwater owner added.


​Logistically, Sy said the league can tap the help of the country’s three top airlines company, most especially AirAsia where congressman and Northport team owner Mikee Romero has a big stake.

Games in the South could also be scheduled on weekends like what the PBA does during regular out-of-town sorties.

Marcial said out-of-town matches will again be held in the coming Season 48, including possible matches in Hong Kong to serve as home games of guest team Bay Area Dragons.

In the long run, Sy said member ballclubs could eventually adopt provincial cities to carry their names.

Be careful on what you wish for Sy. If PBA is already have so much politics. Wait when local politicians joins the association.
