Just heard that Jong Uichico, with MVP's full support, will be starting an annual 2-week, 16-team international basketball tourney that will feature national teams from Asia, Africa, and Europe. This will be held in the Philippines (MOA or Araneta). Finer details of this undertaking are still being ironed out according to SBP sources.

It's going to be called the Jong's Cup :(

I actually believed this, until I saw the smiley. Not sure if I'm laughing at the post or at my own stupidity. =D

Hoping other teams will follow the example of the newest PBA team owner Mikee Romero. Remember, country before club!

Great news. Mikee Romero told us he will release Gary David and JV Casio for the Stankovic Cup. Good on you Mikee. Setting a good example.

He's really going at it....

Hep, hep, not so fast:

Aguilar Global Port-bound; Kings prepare package for Casio
Details Published on Tuesday, 28 August 2012 00:00 Written by NOLI CORTEZ
http://www.malaya.com.ph/index.php/sports/11695-aguilar-global-port-bound

THERE are rumors Japeth Aguilar is headed back to the United States to try his luck in the NBA D-League. Before that, however, the 6-foot-9 center-forward may yet make a stop at Global Port.

Commissioner Chito Salud is set to receive documents within the week pertaining to the deal that will send Aguilar to the Batang Pier in exchange for center Rabeh Al-Hussaini, the No. 2 pick in the pro league draft last year.

A very reliable source yesterday told Business Insight-Malaya that there’s no stopping Aguilar from going to the Batang Pier, which bought the Powerade franchise and is assembling a competitive squad according to owner Mikee Romero’s specifications.

“Done deal na halos because both parties have already agreed in principle and the (trade) papers have almost been drawn up,” said the insider privy to the negotiations. “Konting kinks na lang ang inaayos.”

Once Aguilar gets to Global Port, the issue of his US plans will be discussed.

“He is sure to get the playing time and exposure he failed to get at Talk N Text, so he may be persuaded to permanently defer his plans,” said the source.

The trade is just part of some frenzied moves being made by teams gearing up for the PBA’s 38th season kicking off on Sept. 30.

Foremost among those actively offering deals is Ginebra, which sorely wants Jayvee Casio from the Batang Pier.

A package being dangled by the Kings involves nine-year veteran Mike Cortez and forward Willy Wilson for Casio, although San Miguel Corp. management reportedly wants another offer drawn up.

“Hangga’t maaari ibang players ang ibigay para makuha si Casio,” said the source.

Initially, the insider added, the Kings have offered John Wilson and Wilson, but Romero reportedly turned it down.

John Wilson has since been traded to Air21 along with KG Canaleta in exchange for Elmer Espiritu and the Express’ 2013 first round draft rights.

Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen has openly stated he wants Casio, but declined to comment on trade rumors. “Sa itaas nangyayari ang mga ganyang negotiations,” he said.

The source persisted, however, saying SMC executives and Ginebra coaching staff are reportedly set to meet today to draw up a package amenable to both Global Port and SMC management.

Casio would be a welcome addition for the Kings. Known for being more of a facilitator, he would surely complement a Kings team that has an abundance of scorers, led by reigning MVP Mark Caguioa, and an awesome frontline.

and i hope global will not trade casio for peanuts just what ginebra is currently offering. if they'll trade him, trade him for someone equally good if not better.

Even only fajardo will be enough, so Eala make this happen for the sake of the Filipinos!

Yup! as a reliever for Douthit i know Fajardo will do a decent job, he can rebound and defend well.

And this kind of tournament and exposure will also toughen up Fajardo, so in any angle SMB will look they will benefit. They will have the gratitude of filipino basketball fanatics and it will toughen up Fajardo :)

Hmm, Rabeh Al-Hussaini to TNT? If he gets his act together, bulks up and deflate his over sized ego with the help of Norman Black, we might well see him on Gilas 2.0 as a serviceable 4 or backup 5 as a temporary fix until Slaughter becomes available or a miracle happens and Fajardo is allowed to play. Him being a brat would not work in Gilas 2.0 as these guys are mama already that he can't bully around. Baka ma kutusan pa sya ng mga kuya nya na PBA vets..lol. That is allot of "IF's" unfortunately :-(.

If Rabeh gets rid of his baby fats and deflates his over sized head (ego), it would tremendously improve his game as he is much lighter and could gain a few inches of vertical leap lol.. sorry can't help it :)

Slow news day, eh LoveJong? ;)

Looks like the release of JV is imminent. Mikee just needs to clarify if it's to another club or a higher cause.

Interesting fact:

1948 - The Philippines became the first country to score at least 100 points in a single game in the Olympic men’s basketball history. The Philippines beat Iraq 102-30 in the opening game of Group A.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_in_the_Philippines

OT:

And curiously, the second, third, and fourth countries to score in triple digits came from the same bracket from the same Olympic tournament against the same hapless opponent.

Clueless Iraq continued to get worse beatdowns after the Philippine salvo: Chile (100-18), then Korea (120-20), then China (125-25).

Chile, Korea, Belgium, the Philippines, China, and Iraq were in Group B (not Group A, as wikipedia erroneously notes) of the 1948 London Olympics.

My opinion is, it just so happened that the Philippines had the first crack at using the brass knuckles. :p

Come to thing of it a surprising yet tactical sensible inclusion for the Stankovic line-up would be Pringle. This is the one tournament we can afford to risk having one player in the 12 man line-up declared ineligible , but if we are successful in getting him passed the eligibility committee or officials then this would be highly beneficial. Rosser should also be included in the line-up for the same reasons. I believe this is the time to try and determine if Hagop would approve of the two , not in next years FIBA asia which would be detrimental and be to late.

So cheap offer..you ****ing SMC Co.! ano tingin nyo sa amin ipinanganak lang kahapon??

Well $ could bring management incompetence.

I don't think it works that way, how many teams for a regional zone (e.g. SEA) make it outright via the Asia cup is irrelevant to how many slots will be avaialble through the SEABA qualifiier next year. SEA will still have two more slots in regardless if the Philippines qualifies outright through the Asia cup. In fact Thailand and Malaysia would be praying we make it outright , so we don't treat the SEABA seriosuly and simply send CEBU Luhulier instead ;)

Actually we're not sure whether SEA have two more slots for fiba asia. note that currently there are 5 subzones for Asia with South Asia unofficial yet. i read somewhere that Fiba Asia is leaning on getting one slot from SEA to give to South Asia, which will leave SEA with just 1 slot for fiba asia. When that happens, the SEABA qualifiers next year will be important as we can't afford to relax there. Equally important is this Fiba Asia Cup where Top 4 teams will earn one more slot for their subzone to the fiba asia.

Now the best thing our SEA neighbors (indonesia, malaysia, thailand) could do, aside from hoping we finish the top 4 in fiba asia cup, is that to play the politics game to ensure that the 2 SEA slots will not be touched.
