Pound for pound probably the best rebounder in Europe.

Will rip your heart out on the court, but off it is one of the sweetest, nicest guys you'll ever meet. It doesn't compute :)

unfortunatly no rumors about gershon out..but i guess mainly with goga it will be hard to explaine why i hope he will go

Pound for pound probably the best rebounder in Europe.

If you say so, I believe you, because I didn't saw him :)
From other guards in Europe Tariq Kirksay (Cajasol) is great rebounder also - 7.1 rpg in ACB.

Is there in Roma a rumor regarding Virtus which will make official tomorrow the signing of Rakocevic. Does someone how false is this news?
For me it is completely and fully false more than 100%. But I couldn't go to watch the game today between Efes and Virtus so..

i just know rome deeply wanted rakocevic last year too and after this season maybe could easier to add him

Can anybody explain, how Chester Mason (guard 184 cm) became the top rebounder of Adriatic League with 8.08 rpg? :)

by jumping more than others:D and tomic leaving league:)

he is good all round player that plays for team, athletic and give his best for team...playing stayle of game is fundumently sound, but is not physical like in euroleague or in some other leagues. only partizan, cibona, buducnost and zvezda playing bit more physical game and of corse as usuall evry tall player gets out from league after first good season:( ...combine all that with good feal for space and you have answer...overall...under control team PG, unselfish with solid playmakeing abilitys and very good on defense...bit lacking of typical american agresion on pg position and lacking of outside touch

imo, i'm not sure he can be one of leaders or somthing like that in stronger teams, but you never know...he is probably cheep so it's worth risk, and it's time for him to get his chance

goga u are enough intelligent to understand me, so please don't change meaning of my word.i know u can undesrtand and reading over simple words. come on i'm not stupid

Sorry but I haven't changed the meaning of your words anywhere. You're up to prove that.

u made example of over 32 players added by great team, but u understand that is not the right way. the fact that rarely it happened(how many times happen a great team add over 32players?) doesn t mean is correct. i'll never give 1 mln to saras , with that money i can sign a very good younger player.

This is not right. I gave you some examples of great players getting into good systems and transforming them into even better teams. I can give you more examples, while you won't find too many opposite examples.

Of course, 1 mio is too much for MTA to pay for Saras. He is still worth this money in Europe but in a different club that can pay a bench player (or a starter for 20 ppg) that much. Saras main weapon hasn't been his blazing speed or athleticism. He is THE brain of every team he has played on. He has fantastic court vision, he is a superb shooter, he is the ultimate winner. Actually, he would give MTA more money than he would cost it. More money due to commercials, public interest etc. Actually, I would add him to Maccabi as he is a player who makes everybody around him better. He was such a player a year ago and he is one now.

about how we consider mac roster comparing with at least other 10 teams i think are better, unfortunatly those are opinions.

Lots of stuff aren't opinions but facts, such as CSKA having a very thin bench, Turkish clubs not working well as units, Yannakis not calling out the best out of such an amazing roster, Messina having problems with his players, Real having lost both matches to Maccabi, McIntyre having his worst matches in years against Maccabi etc.
Otherwise, there are opinions but somehow you see to be the lonely warriors. Bookies though differently the whole season long, fans and journalists did the same. No one has seen MTA in a worse light than you, nobody has called it a mediocre EL team. You have written it here every day in the Top 16. Before each game you have written that MTA will lose. You would hope differently but you would be quite sure about that. Seems like you are a 100% pessimist in this case. Strange, as fans tend to exaggerate things for the positive, while you are the complete opposite.

i can say that every expert, majority of internationl fans from everywhere, consider siena real kimki efes , teams much stringer than us, but i respect your opiniomn even i'm so surprised.

This is pure BS. Siena was considered as a strong Final 4 candidate by th beginning of the season, one MTA would fight over its spot there. However, Siena showed signs of decline as the season progressed. No one has ever thought about Efes as a stronger team than MTA. A team without a PF, without a real PG, with too many egoistic players, past their prime or one-dimensional, with too many players who were not completing each other. This Efes team barely made the Top 16 out of a relatively weak reg. season group. Khimki?! Come on. You are the only one thinking so. No real PF, no real low post presence under the basket. One big gamble with Langford and the best player and captain who is already 33 or even older and has lost a step. This team has never played that high and has choked big time every year. You are the only one putting those teams above MTA('s estimation).

sometimes seasons go in the better way ,sometimes are simply chemically negative, but reading players of real efes and co', i'll envy them at least 4 players each team.

You see, that's the difference. You are talking about names on paper, while I'm talking about actual teams. Who has known Perkins a season ago? He is better tan any player on Efes he could face on his position. Real? Good players, nothing great, bad chemistry, lots of wasted money. Way to go, buddy. I can't envy Real for its players as it has lost both games to MTA. Actually, I like Kaukenas who was just cut by this team. I like Reyes. Both are very determined, good fighters. Tomic is showing good signs. Llull is clutch. Who else? Garbajosa past his prime? Bullock that is not playing? Ditto to Velickovic. The always injured D. Lavrinovic who prefers not to defend straight up and not to play physically being 212 cm tall? I can envy Barca for Lorbek, for example. But not for players from these teams.

also i said i'd change 3 of 5 players who were copnsider more important and who played more minutes. i don't care who start the matches. i see munutes played and generally conideration of them. miunutes says who can be included in the first five players we have.

Somehow, starters are the players with most minutes, especially since Lampe left. Whatever. Man, you are writing about almost the whole roster, except for Fischer and PErkins. Haven't written about Sharp and Limonad but Sharp doesn't play and Limonad is needed for ISL. The rest belongs replaced according to you. Another rebuilding season(s)?

about israeli. i admit i absolutely don't know israeli league so i have just to believe what u say and what other israeli fan here use to write. i just can be surprised if we really haven t better player than mekel pnini or green.

Have you followed the NT? How can you be surprised and still claim who belongs out and who is not? Do some scouting, watch some games and look at some stats and team records then. There are other good player but hardly anyone MTA would need. Pnini, for example, is a SF (was forced to play PF in EL) with good size (201 cm), strong and getting stronger, a nasty defender with a reliable shot from the outside. In the ISL he is doing even more stuff, being a very complete player. Such a player can play for MTA internationally without giving up the matchup. Mekel is a young PG who has shown good play last season. He has good size for his position, good ball handling skills. Why not, in a couple of years...? Can MTA show up in the EL with undersized and solid but not that good and inexperienced players? I doubt it. This is why players like Kadir are not Maccabi material. Not because they aren't good but because they are not a good fit with this team. Green is an undersized center who has been slowed down by a back injury. A couple of years back, he was one of the best defending big men in Europe, a good athlete, a very strong player physically with a good offensive game if trusted. He has shown up bigger names on his position quite a lot, when playing for the NT. He is the best center Israel has ever had. However now, he is not a good fit with this club as he is hardly playing and he cannot produce in his spare minutes, although he was the only one able to contain Maric in the quarterfinals, for example.

somebody wrote we have good guards better than mekel but no better center than green. so why not adding israeli guards and releasing green adding another foreign center?

Because Israeli guards are not leading EL material!!! You don't trust your EL team aiming for the Final Four to Mekel or Naimy in first place or being even the second option at PG off the bench. Shooting guards? Halperin is the best but you cannot depend on him. Limonad is the second best and he hardly plays in Europe on this team. Burstein is over the top and his condition isn't clear. Pnini is the best SF along with Casspi. Casspi is unavailable. Eliyahu is the only PF who can contribute in a good way at this level. Go on and release Green. No problem. He is not playing anyway, so why not get a younger guy like Rothbart and let Vujcic work with him? Otherwise, Maccabi can simply use one of its junior players as they won't be playing him anyway.

u are right, if u say it would be not easy to release him. nobody wulld give him our same contract, one of craziest things we made.

Do you think, Green can be released only if someone gives him a similar contract money-wise? Green is making 340.000 USD this year and is due to make 470.000 (?) next year. Clearly, it's not worth keeping a player just in case for that much money. If Maccabi wants to release him, they will find an agreement for 200.000 or so and he will sign for a different club, where he will make money and get playing time. It was a good step to sign him but a bad one to make him our third center. He can't contribute that way. There are players like Sharp, who are almost guaranteed to give you a couple of threes and steals in their five minutes on court. Green has a much harder time under such circumstances.

we both would like better mac. i think we need more than u ,but mainly we bothn knows we have no money.

MTA does have money, it just depends on how it wants to spend it. This year hasn't been the ultimate year of scouting, seeing Lampe go away (best-paid player on team) and Eidson and Anderson not fitting well together.

so how to create a new next year team? u said we are not ready, fast and enough rich to buy young yu players, or expansive european, but as i said , world is very big and even accepting paying buy out till 300mln is the only way.

MTA doesn't pay buyouts of that amount. MTA won't give a Yugo talent 3-5 years of time to develop on its bench. It does find much better deals with US players.

there are many players not much considered like nadjifeji who could be optiopns.what about the coming back of morris? why not. he played just few minutes lately in barca..does som, ebody know how is going batista this year? he played great season for us years ago..why not?

Nadjfeji is a solid player but not for this team, if it wants to go further than this year. Maccabi's pace and playing style are different from his game. Besides, he is getting 32 net season. Weren't you the one writing sth. about old players?
Morris was getting 600.000 USD in Tel-Aviv, 1.8 mio or so in CSKA and about the similar amount in Barcelona. Morris is playing exactly the same amount of minutes (just over 20) as he was playing for CSKA last year.
Batista is having a solid year on Ayudaaccion, #13 out of 18 in the ACB (12-17 record). He is plaing on the same team as Burstein.

http://www.acb.com/jugador.php?id=BHE

A physically strong player with some low post presence. I liked him in yellow dress. However, he is not fast enough, doesn't have stamina to play big minutes, is turnover prone, can't shoot straight, can't use his right hand, travels permanently, a bad passer.

unfortunatly no rumors about gershon out..but i guess mainly with goga it will be hard to explaine why i hope he will go

Actually, I was disappointed with his work quite often this season. He signed a new contract a year ago. I don't see him leaving Maccabi before his contract expires.

if i say that no big teams use to add 33 yo players, doesnt mean sometimes happened! so if u show some examples in this way, seems u were considering as i said this never happened. i sure knows somethimes happen! obviuously i didn't mean never!so your examples didn't say anything more than i said

all saras skills are well known by everybody, but actually those skills have no more positive impact . is an injuried players , who plays few minutes a match and in my opinion saras is even three ys who is playng much under his level, so i don't know why u shuld hope in a sudden resurrection next year when he will be 34.

is courios, u talk about cska bench, about siena decline about bad coaches, about no playing as a team by others, but don't say much about mac thin bench, about bad pini organization, about a team that played just with individual solution, about our egoistic players, about the crazy chemistry adding anderson and eidson together.
u should say that at least other teams ON THE PAPER have many great players, we even don't (except perkins and fischer in my opinion)
wanna talk about caja as an example? they failed for many reasons but u should say that players like ely teletovic splitter sanemterio huertas are players a little bit better than ours. real?tomic lavrinovic kaueknas velickovic lull..should i continue? they had dramatic season but doesn t mean they aren't better team. do u think real madrid would trade wisi lasme eidson anderson , to tomic lavrinovic kaukenas or caja would trade them for ely teletovic and co? i don't think so.

yes we'd need a revolution. being not blind by passion, should recomend it

why not mekel? because at his age u should show something more to imagine u can be a mac player in future. i saw him in euro national cup, it was comic!crazy shot, zero on defense, zero as organization and vision.
green..u continue considering defensive skills as enough. if u just defend but u are zero in offense , u can't play at this level.

why not get a younger guy like Rothbart and let Vujcic work with him?
simply because niko is not a basket player actually .is just a monument.we need 25-30 minutes players on the court . mac never had long roster because of money.we always had teams with 4-5 important players and one or two important six men. we need players to stay on court, not teachers for youngers pr monument by 5 minutes per match. sure, we can use niko even 20 minutes. no rules says u can't . but u simply would play 4 against five for 15 minutes!

i'm afraid for managment is much easier to add old monuments intead of searching players. and players by 800/1mln around the world should be easy to find

if u have money but spend it in a worse way or don't spend them , is the same not having money. anyway the fact we haven't is proved by the fact all world knows we nbeeded another big man after regoular season and managment prefere go on with same players even after releasing lampe! just if u don't have money something can happen

3-5 ys of time fot yu talents? if we starting see to yougo talent 2 ys ago now we aren t talking about it.

sorry about nadjifeji . i tought he was 28! my mistake
morris in playoff was less considered and i bet it means barca will not considering him as his important player in future. he earn 1.8 .i think giving him 1.4 he could come back.i'm crazy for him

can someone please open "Maccabi Signings and Rumuors" and put it as a sticky topic here..
otherwise we will be going through this all summer long..

Andrés Nocioni wants to play in Caja Laboral next season. He wants to leave the USA and go back to Vitoria due to personal reasons.

That's interesting. I think he's still a good player in NBA. Anyway, it would only make Euroleague more interesting.

Bjelica might be warming the bench in Barsa in the first season, maybe I'm wrong. He should be doing a big brake-out lately and in the nearest, because his performance in Eurobasket 2009 and Eurocup stats isn't that impressive.

Well, official according to his agent :p

Anyway, it's the first reliable source about that interest. It's curious Bjelica told yesterday he didn't know anything about it. Bad communication between agent and player or a strategy? :D

In the article posted Bjelica said that it is a honour to be targeted by Barcelona...:)

Maccabi want to sigh Jon Scheyer from Duke.
He can play as an Israely player because he is Jewish.

Boniciolli yesterday after the game between Roma and Efes said he called Earl Boykins trying to bring him back to Italy.
Roma is looking for a center or a guard who can score

Maccabeo, I'll try make it short.

1. I know more cases about top players that are making their teammates better landing on big teams with lesser roles than on bad teams with bigger roles. They can't play more minutes due to wear and tear in their bodies anyway, so what's the matter of going to a bad team that gives you no perspective of winning, classy teammates, enough money?

2. Saras has the same skills as a year ago. He hasn't been playing this season due to an injury and abundance of Greek PGs, one of them being a project that needs playing time. Two years ago he was the lonely fighter for PAO when it needed him dearly. One year ago, he was their best player in the Final 4. PAO eventually became the EL champion, if you remember well.

3. Yes, there is a valid reason to compare MTA to those teams and see that it has a good team, a good coach and a good result. A lot of points can be criticized and discussed. Player selection, chemistry, coach, management. But there is no reason to drag it all into dirt. While MTA has had a lot of problems in the second round of the regular season, it came up big, when it had to. The right combination of players was found to play successful basketball. The only ego hoopster MTA has is Anderson. Perkins dominates the ball but he makes his teammates better and he is a lock up defender.

4. It doesn't matter, which names you have on paper. There are players with well known names who are overrated, overpaid, past their prime. There are players who are new at this stage but performing very well. On paper, Fischer and especially Perkins are nobodys. However, Fischer is better than any of Efes overpaid centers, while Perkins is better than any of Efes overpaid guards, for example. Sure, Eliyahu is better than any MTA player. That's why MTA decided not to keep him. Good ball handling and driving skills as well as a good half hook and floater. Not existing shot, not existing, physical presence for a big guy, not existing defense. It decided to go with scorers from wing positions and interior defense. It fared better than last year with Eliyahu playing big minutes. Splitter is a great center, one of top 3 in Europe. Huertas, San Emeterio and especially Teletovic? Puhleazze! There is no need in dropping names of other teams' players. It's not about names, it's about actual plays and players and winning, as explained above.

5. MTA needs a revolution? You are the only one to think so. That would mean many new players and rebuilding once again. No need in that.

6. Mekel... I have a somewhat different opinion but I don't care. Mekel can stay away from MTA all of his career. It's just a matter of what other ISraeli players MTA wants to have on its roster.

7. Vujcic is the only center on the continent that is making everybody around him better. He is still a very good player but in order to preserve his body, you shouldn't let him play over 20-25 mpg. Defensively, he has never been great but okay. Offensively, he gives your team a different dimension. He can do everything on offense. Plus, who else would be a better teacher for a young stud than Nikola?!

we always had teams with 4-5 important players and one or two important six men.

Not true. MTA has never had a rotation of 5-7 players as depicted.

3-5 ys of time fot yu talents? if we starting see to yougo talent 2 ys ago now we aren t talking about it.

Two years ago they were projects not worth the money you'd have to pay for them. MTA is doomed to be winning right away and doesn't have time to slowly develop foreign players.

morris in playoff was less considered and i bet it means barca will not considering him as his important player in future. he earn 1.8 .i think giving him 1.4 he could come back.i'm crazy for him

Morris has been playing the same minutes at every stage of the season. Maccabi won't pay him that much money as Morris is a very good role player but not a leader who could take the team on his shoulders and carry it. I liked him a lot at Maccabi but who should he come in for? Lasme, who is earning much less and the problem with the low post center - probably the biggest investment - would still not be solved?

You see, I'm the only one left discussing these matters with you. This is the last post to this topic. Be more realistic to what MTA's goals are, what its abilities are, the depth of its pockets and the free players on the market. You see to be a notorious pessimist who is always abstract but when getting into details, you bring up names of totally washed up players unable to play important roles on big teams, players who are not made for this level or players who would never play for what MTA would offer them financially. I'm not someone who tends to see everything in a positive light but I'd see no reason to cheer for a team, predicting it losing every game before it starts.
