ieh but i want to tell you that the hall starting lineup was injured and the rest you can figure it by your self

that's what you taught..we just beat an all American team(with NCAA div1 players) with most of our players on vacation..not bad ey

Our amateur players beat Al-Riyadi with Fadi El-Khatib on the lineup and is composed mostly the Lebanese NT and our team is composed of mostly 6 feet shooting guards. We almost beat the Iranian team with Vroman as their import.I'm just saying,we have good chances now that we have an all pro team that beats Lebanon on a regular basis.I wouldn't brag about beating France on the World Championships if my team is being beaten by a third class Asian team If I were you..:D

sorry but smart gilas won over Riyadi without Fadi el khatib.
Fadi did not play.

those college kids are still very raw..
i could even compete with those college kids..hehe
esp those from feu and ust(barocca,ababou,cawaling..etc..)..haha:D:D

so now i wonder how really good other countries are..since they had a close fight against college kids..theses kids has limited basketball life due to studies..its hard to pass..arrrgggg

yes but unfortunately he doesnt now how to play bascketball his skills are on the checkers court hahahahahaha but good luk next time try finding a basketball player:p kiss ekhtik chou bahle :p good luck

Opsssss we'll see about that come Fiba Asia dude... Just stop your 'nonsense yakking! :D

nice player:p

you are moklo in action..

Why would they say Arboleda is "crafty"? What are the basis for this? What is Arboleda's stats in the PBA, and how does it compare with Willie?

Miller did nothing against Australia? Really? What are the stats of Willie and Ryan in that game in terms of points, assists, steals, and turnovers?

What I can't figure out, is why people keep insisting Ryan as playing good defense. What does that mean, exactly? How many steals does he average in a game? Is he able to shut down the prolific player of the opposing team?

As for being a playmaker, how many assists does Ryan put put out per game?

I base my judgement on numbers, which is much less subjective. Let's all get Ryan and Willie's numbers in terms of assists, steals, points, and turnovers here, and see who suck more.

dude, not everything is captured by stats. all true fans of the game know that.

You have a point

But there is an old saying which goes like this:

"Stats Never Lie"

So even if the player is categorized as crafty or skilled......

A player with the better stats means he is used often because he is productive

A player with less stats means he is used rarely because he is not that productive

Therefore we can say that players with better stats means they are better players

this is precisely the thing why I have high hopes for RP team..those untallied stats but as basketball fans, we know he did great..give scoring many points to real scorers, but those untangibles will put dagger to the hearts of our enemies..people like dilinger, arwind, gabe, reyes, kerby..puso will be the difference.

AGUILAR NOT BAD IN POWERADE-RP WIN OVER SOLDIERS FOR CHRIST

japeth.jpg

Japeth Aguilar came away from his first scrimmage with Powerade Team Pilipinas Thursday night – maybe not with flying colors – but with a high enough passing grade which head coach Yeng Guiao believes can only get better in the coming days.

Aguilar finished with eight points, six rebounds, four blocks shots and a steal in 24 minutes, getting his first taste of action with the Nationals in a come-from-behind 100-94 victory over the evangelical but rough-playing Soldiers for Christ at The Arena in San Juan.

The 6-foot-9 son of former Northern Consolidated center Peter Aguilar was especially impressive in the first quarter when he swatted away three shots, providing a glimpse of a future anchored on his long-limbed defensive capabilities.

“He has a lot of things to improve on but the potential is there,” said Guiao, who started Aguilar along with Willie Miller, Arwind Santos, Kerby Raymundo and James Yap.

“Japeth also needs to get used to the local brand of basketball again. Medyo naliligaw pa eh. But I’m pretty satisfied with what I saw.”

Led by Marcus Morgan, who finished with 21 points, and Wayne Oliver, who drained five 3-point shots, Soldiers for Christ led through most of the first half and the early part of the third before Arwind Santos struck for 13 of his 22 points to help tie the game, 69-all, going to the final 10 minutes.

The Nationals’ reinforcements – Burger King’s Wynne Arboleda (3 steals), Mark Yee (3 triples) and Beau Belga (5 rebounds, 2 blocks) – then made their presence felt in the fourth quarter, delivering in the clutch when the game swung perilously in either team’s favor.

Santos missed 5 of 6 triples but was 7 of 10 from within with 13 rebounds while Yap added 18 and Raymundo 13 points.

Vastly different from the plodding Australian team that played two goodwill games against the Nationals last April, the visiting Soldiers for Christ selection, whose core is made up of former collegiate players from the United States, was comparatively more fundamentally sound.

The American missionaries, led by former Purefoods player Rob Johnson and one-time Red Bull import in the Philippine Basketball League Troy Coleman, also matched the RP team fastbreak game and were, for most part of the first half, deadlier from the outside as they led by as many as 13 points on the way to a 49-39 advantage after two 10-minute quarters.
Both teams were on equal footing from 3-point range but the Nationals, with four key players on the bench in street clothes, shot just 10 of 22 from inside the and were outrebounded, 29-21.

With their mother ballclubs locked in a best-of-seven series in the Motolite Fiesta Conference Finals, Mick Pennisi (San Miguel Beer) and Jayjay Helterbrand and Cyrus Baguio (Barangay Ginebra) sat out the game along with Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood who was ailing.

On hand to watch the exhibition game, three weeks before Powerade-RP leaves for the Jones Cup tournament in Taipei, were PBA commissioner Renauld ‘Sonny’ Barrios, PBA vice chairman Lito Alvarez, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas vice chairman Ricky Vargas, SBP secretary-general Patrick Gregorio, and Ateneo athletic director Ricky Palou.

The scores:

POWERADE-RP 100 – Santos 22, Yap 18, Raymundo 13, Arboleda 9, Yee 9, De Ocampo 9, Miller 8, Aguilar 8, Belga 4.

SOLDIERS FOR CHRIST 94 – Morgan 21, Oliver 20, Alexander 17, Mcfadden 13, Amenra 11, Crawford 5, Green 4, Dooley 3, Johnson 0.

Quarterscores: 13-22; 39-49; 69-69; 100-94

For starters Ryan Reyes Leads the league in steals last year. He is young and athletic.Miller on the other hand is getting old ( Fact)

You are not getting me man. Miller is great and all but he doesnt fit the PG position unlike Arboleda or Reyes. Miller is good in the PBA but that doesnt make him better in International leagues..To site samples look at cardona, We dont need stars in the team we need role models. Like miller not fitting in a PG role..Well if you want Stats check how the national Team par with Australia PBA all stars and SEABA..its diffrent from the pBA..

Not everything, but most of it are captured by stats.

The word "intangibles" has become the most abused word in basketball nowadays. It has become a tool for fanboys to promote their favorite players, especially if that favorite player does not have good stats. Suddenly he is better because of "intangibles".

I would agree has a place in basketball, but only a limited place.

Ryan Reyes is leading in steals last year. What about this year? Willie, on the other hand, is competing with Jayjay for the season MVP award this year.

Why would Reyes and Arboleda make a better PG than Willie? What is your basis for this? You need to have a solid basis before you come up with a conclusion.

What were his stats before he got his injury, then? He wasn't injured the whole time now, wasn't he?

Japeth played only WKU's first three games in 2007-2008 before he got his stress fracture. He was supposed to start for WKU in 2008-2009 but had another stress fracture before the season even started.

stats

stats

hey it's not everyday you see a pure pinoy who is 6'9 who has 7 feet++ wing span and has 30 inch vertical leap not to mention his 4 blocks and 7 rebounds under 20 minutes of playing time..i say that's not bad..not bad at all

I would agree that Japeth was given so much hype but injuries did him in with his stint at WKU, when he came back healthy the coaching staff was not able to insert him into the rotation. Before they actually saw Japeth in person Noli Eala and Yeng Guiao was skeptical about the boys since the last 3 years he did not actually had an opportunity to really play. But after they saw him on court they became believers and right now is engaged in a tug-of-war for Japeth's service for the next 3 years. Japeth does recognize that he has to do a lot of improvement and he promised to work hard on it. He is just thankful of getting all these opportunities and hope he does good. He would rather prove that he is for real in the playing court.
