that's one of the advantage of Ranidel against Sonny Thoss who seems to be a little soft for a man of his size.

one funny anecdote about the game yesterday. there was this one play wherein the point guard of the opposing team is rushing onto RP team's defense and ranidel ran into his path. what happened? boom! the poor player bounced so hard like crashing into a brick wall and sprawled down into the playing court! ranidel didn't even budge. he just looked down on the fallen dude as if nothing happened. =>

^I quite agree with Wynne is better than Willie in terms of defensive awareness but in offensive skills, Willie still has the upper hand... I just think Wynne is more fit into YG's scheme of things...

We have just seen a glimpse of Japeth can provide inside... hopefully we'll see more of that soon...

As of my main man's performance... 'nuff said! :D though he could be better in terms of shot selection...

Arboleda has Very High basketball I.Q...very witty guy..Yet cool on the floor

well, there was that game against the australians when thoss played physical and rough against an aussie.

i just though that thoss is labeled soft because he is a finesse player converted to a power player just because he bulked up in the gym.

what can you say about willie miller as the team's PG, nardy?

at the arena last night ..... willie showed that he is a better 2 than a 1 ..... it was when wynne took over the point and willie slid to shooting guard that POWERADE broke away. He might be small at the 2 but he really has the moves that could compensate it. I would still like to see for this team to have Gabe handle the point and have Jayjay and Willie slide into the 2 at a number of times. Willie can play the point but he is just an ordinary player if he is asked to do the orchestration but he morphs into a different player at the 2, that's what I can say.

Willie could be this year's FIBA-Asia's Mark Caguiao if he is unleashed by Coach Yeng. Despite my misgivings to the preparations of this team, I truly feel Guiao has the right tricks to pull this out of the hat.

+1 on this. arboleda's quite a handfu! sticky defense and all. am quite impressed with his game yesterday. he outplayed miller alright.

well, it could be awkward that the PG is taller than the SG. but hey, guiao is a master of that (what team can boast that its best 3pt shooter is someone 6'9 tall? gu). guiao's system is really unorthodox.

caguiao was really good in all pre-tokushima tournaments. he had the "i can score anytime i want to" aura which i just don't see willie has.

i just have a question??? if a player was chosen to be a reserve, is this mean he cannot play for the entire tournament? coz for what i understand the final 12 can play and the reserves or alternates can play also if he was elevated to the lineup in lieu of the other player... correct me if im wrong ...

In the William Jones Cup... Kots Kalbs can bring all 15-16 players but in FIBA Championship, we are only allowed to have 12 players... if somebody got injured, we can't replace him with someone outside the 12 players selected... its the rule... and I think its fair... imagine playing Team USA, then lil Dwighty Howard got injured but the coach doesn't see his back-up are good enough to start for the next game.. so he calls up players outside the 12, maybe Amare Stoudamire or even Shaquille O'Neal... that would be unfair for their opponents who doesn't have the luxuries of such quality of players...

tnx alot... now i understand...

i hope coach yeng will use thoss...
reserves are baguio,reyes and ranidel

during the warm-ups Japeth was taking 3point shots from the top of the key and he makes them consistently. so as his free throws.

If the tournament rules does allow 12 man-lineup with 3 reserves, a reserve or alternate can only be elevated on extreme cases like an injury or ailment. If a player was disqualified as ineligible or is suspended from a game, he cannot be replaced. But my understanding in FIBA-Asia it is a strictly 12 final line-up per team. And it's just a practice of several teams to bring the last players cast-offs and say they are reserves but actually it's just a "consuelo-di-bobo" to the player to still go to the tournament. I remember in the 1998 Asian Games when Jeffrey Cariaso was the last man that was cut-off from the Centennial Team and Tim Cone brought him along in the trip as an extra man to act as a scout for the team.

i also watched last night in the ARENA..i was there at 4pm..i was really happy that the admission was free and only few people knew about the game..so i got a very good courtside seat....:D

all i can say about the game was Japeth was awesome defensively..just only in the first half he already had 2 blocks..my total is 7 blocks for the whole game including those w/ fouls..i liked his aggresiveness..he was always in the air trying to block all the shots..with just raising his long arms there were several times when the americans altered their shots just to avoid being block..i think his addition will give Asi less problem defending inside..imagine Asi banging body with a posting opponent..when the player take the shot japeth will suddenly appear from the blindside flying to swat the ball...what a wishful thinking...hihihi..opposing team will surely hesitate before taking a shot inside...

wynne also was a fierce defender at the backcourt...with his wide frame body he can really force and harass the opposing guards...he actually swiped the ball from the american pointguards couple of times and harrassed them wildly...i hope guiao will reconsider wynne as a replacement for ryan reyes if his injury do not heal before the fiba tournament...or for miller...his defense really SUCKS..combine it with james yap...i hope in the turnament proper guiao wont put willie and james together..

just my two cents:)

Miller and Yap defence sucks, But they make up with scoring..If only miller can Play strong D..Ryan Reyes is vital coz of his height and defence..Ill pick him over Miler..He is just not a natural PG..

ok..i got your point..miller is really good in offense..but i hope guiao will not put miller together with james or jayjay..instead he should put gabe or jared to play the point...im sure its already in the mind of coach yeng..hope he's unpredictability in coaching will help our team...

When the sixers went to the nba finals the last time, iverson (6'0) was SG while snow (6'3) was PG. it was to maximize the offensive skills of iverson. so the same thing could be applied to the rp team and that would be the exceptional ability that norwood can bring to the team if he is selected. he can be the team's tall PG. of course in defense, he will guard whoever is the taller guard of the opposing team so our small guards can defend the smaller guard of the opposing team.sun-yue of china sometimes slide to the pg position and the SG and even SF of china are smaller than him in occassions.it's nothing really new, having a taller PG than the SG.
