Just remember this people,O.J. Mayo scandal leads to heavy sanctions for USC basketball; team 'shocked and saddened In a long-awaited response to allegations that former basketball star O.J. Mayo received improper cash and gifts while in school, USC will penalize its team by forfeiting victories and money, forgoing postseason play and curtailing recruiting.

"When we've done something wrong, we have an obligation to do something about it and that is exactly what we are doing here," Athletic Director Mike Garrett said in a statement on Sunday. And also the Reggie Bush violations in USC football same thing they cant even play in any of the Bowl games. So not even a single centavo of support from the Philippines should be in Ray's pocket or it would be a technical violation.

what if they direct the money to Ray's Dad.

To illustrate how strict the US NCAA about "amatuerism", LeBron James is a good example. Even how good he is and even if he could have uplifted the marketability of the NCAA, he was stripped of his eligibility. Nobody is bigger than the rules over there.

In 2003, James' mother, Gloria James, got approval of a loan to buy a Hummer H2 for her son's 18th birthday.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-SUV-35 The bank took her son's future earning power into consideration, prompting an investigation by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-SUV-35 Under the OHSAA guidelines, no amateur may accept any gift valued over $100 as a reward for athletic performance.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-Free-36 When James later accepted two throwback jerseys of Wes Unseld and Gale Sayers worth $845 from NEXT, an urban clothing store in Shaker Square, in exchange for his posing for pictures to be displayed on the store's walls, OHSAA stripped him of his eligibility.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-Free-36 James appealed and a judge blocked the ruling, reducing the penalty to a two-game suspension and allowing him to play the remainder of the season. James' team was forced to forfeit one of their wins as a result.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-37 That forfeit was the team's only official loss that season.

Despite the distractions, the Irish won a third state title, with James averaging 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals on the season.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-nbahigh-33 James was named to the All-USA First Team for an unprecedented third time, and was selected as Mr. Basketball of Ohio for the third year in a row.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-nbahigh-33 He earned MVP honors at the McDonald's All-American Game, the EA Sports Roundball Classic, and the Jordan Capital Classic. Although it was a foregone conclusion, by participating in more than two high school all-star events, James officially lost his NCAA eligibility.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-38 James finished his high school career with 2,657 points, 892 rebounds and 523 assists.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James#cite_note-nbahigh-33

Bobby Parks Jr.
Scrimmaged San Beda today...gave them they first "L".....and I had 47 on them..

They played 5 12 minute sets, 1st 4 sets = to 4 quarters, san beda won. The last set NU won by 2-points on a last 2 second call by the ref. But throughout the game it was san beda leading by 10, 15 even 20 points.

NU now has a good one on one player in Parks who can get to the hoop at will and possibly go to the free throw line, he will be good. Has a nice perimeter game too. -Mike Abosolo of Inboundpass.com

Bobby Sr. was hired by NU as Athletic Director, no rules violated. Parks family know what they are doing. As what Bobby Sr. said he has to keep Ray eligible for US.

I am sure Bobby Park Sr knows what he is doing in Jr' s recruitment. Accepting benefits would not only ruin Bobby Parks Jr college career but it can destroy NBA dream. I highly doubt that Parks Jr accepted benefits to go to NU. Again his main goal here is to play for the Flag and for his recovering father. Hopefully this Parks accepting benefits talks STOP. It may affect the recruitment of Parks Jr in the future BIG time. NCAA is really going hard right now to athletes accepting improper benefits.

Would NU hire Sr. if Jr. went to another school instead? If they want it clean then Jr. should have gone to another school. US NCAA is so strict that those poor kids from the south or Midwest get in trouble alot since they dont even have laundry or even gas money worst not even an old car so if someone offered them something they take it.

I don't know if the NCAA rules affect things happening outside the US of A. And what if the "benefits" that are being referred to being given to Jr. were indeed intended for Sr. regardless of Jr playing for NU or not simply because Sr is an NU employee? Or what if Henry Sy would just like to help poor Sr just because Henry wants to? Anyway, barya lang naman sa kanya yung medical expenses eh...

It does affect the players... It doesnt matter if the transaction happens outside US.. Look what happened to Enes Kanter of Kentucky..

I see, so it does affect. On Enes Kanter's case, "hinudas sya ng former team nya" .... Wag lang gawin ni Henry Sy yan, di na ako bibili sa SM and jump ship na ako sa BPI hehehe....

I don't think that would be a NCAA violation for hiring a Father to be a school consultant while that son plays for the team. Polee Sr was USC basketball operations manager while his son Polee Jr committed to USC before and eventually end up in St' John because Coach Tim Floyd was fired and Mayo scandal broke out. Again Parks Sr is not foolish to accept those kind of benefits.

Parks Sr. was hired?

HE MULTIAWARDED PBA import whom I bumped into last weekend during a tuneup game between a Korean basketball team and the PBA’s Barako Coffee Masters, handed me a business card with a big logo of the National University on it. Under the name Bobby Parks Sr. were the words “sports development.”
Bobby said he was in charge of the academe’s sports development program and works closely with Junel Baculi, who is athletic director.
Several years ago when he retired from active playing, Bobby returned to his hometown Memphis, Tennessee, with his family. About three months ago, after surviving a broken marriage and a battle with laryngeal cancer which rendered him speechless for many months, Bobby decided to come back to the Philippines, hopefully to settle down here indefinitely.
Bobby was accompanied by his second wife, also a Filipino, with whom he has a 9-year-old son, and Bobby Ray Jr., his son by his first wife Shane.
Shane and Bobby divorced in the United States, each getting custody of one of their two children. Shane got their daughter, while Bobby got Ray.
* * *
According to Bobby, one big motivation that prompted Ray to return to the Philippines was the prospect of playing for the national team Smart Gilas, while going through the one-year residency period required by the UAAP for new players.
Ray Parks had enrolled for a computer course at NU, while his father got a job in the sports department. He was looking to play with the Bulldogs in the 2011 UAAP season.
Ray’s fulfillment would have been complete except for one item that was lacking: A slot in the Philippine basketball team.
Much to his disappointment, national coach Rajko Toroman said he was too young and still too raw to play for Smart Gilas.
Toroman said he needed to gain more experience and exposure in the collegiate leagues as well as some other amateur leagues, before he can join the national team. That’s what the Serbian coach told Bobby.
Ray is only 17.
If you ask Bobby though, he will tell you that his son, although still in his teens, is ready to render service to his country.
At 6-foot-4 on bare feet, Ray developed his basketball fundamentals and skills a lot earlier than he did.
“He plays the one and two positions. He’s a big point guard, he can shoot and he’s very athletic. He plays with a big heart. He’s a combination of brawn and brains.”
* * *
It’s been four years since Bobby’s malignant tumor was first detected. He had to go through a long radiation treatment and suffered side effects from the radical procedure.
“But thank God, I was blessed. My tumor responded to the treatment and I have been free of the malignant cells.
With Ray wearing the Bulldogs jersey next year, can the NU fans and the Sy family of SM expect an appearance (at least) in the UAAP’s Final Four?
I asked Bobby that question.
His answer: “Didn’t they come very close to it this season?”

Hiding "benefits" is already mastered by filipinos. Just ask any BIR, customs, comelec etc employees and officials. If they can do it im sure the NU people can do it for the Parks too.

I though foreign educated players require 2 year residency in UAAP. How can Parks play in 2011?

I just can't figure this out. Bobby Parks was a long time resident import and multi best import awardee, yet when you search the PBA archives, there were only two imports given the Mr. 100% award, namely Norman Black and Sean Chambers.

This seems odd. Can anyone explain how or why this "oversight occurred?

Man he would have been a 2 sport star in college he was All-American in football even now hes built like a TE not a basketball player he could have been in college hall of fame both in basketball and football.

There is no grey line only black and white as they say about NCAA rules i dont think the NU people are smarter than Reggie Bush's parents and the agents who rented them a house rent free just so their son will sign with their agency after college. Or OJ Mayo taking free expensive courtside tickets
for a Laker game not from players or agency but from his own friends who got it from someone connected with the Lakers.

I'm not so sure about the NCAA rules but I think the coaches who went here would know them. They went here to see Parks Jr. and I think they would know the risks of recruiting him but they still went here so I think the issue of receiving benefits of Parks Sr. or the giving a job to Parks at NU is just a minimal issue. I remember Mario Chalmers and Daniel Hackett, from Kansas and USC respectively, while they were in their universities, the dads were there but only USC was sanctioned because MANY violations not only one. When you look at Kansas, Chalmers' dad was on the staff and they did not receive any sanctions so think there is a risk but not that big but this is based only on my opinion though

I think the NCAA is also "human" enough to understand that a man getting a job and to be FREE OF SICKNESS are basic rights of a person. What were given to the other athletes (those mentioned) are not basic rights but you could view them as "luxuries"....
