Ibn Notes: At barely 20 years old, Parker has already made quite a name for herself; playing for perennial powerhouse, the University of Tennessee, Parker has dunked twice -- in one game against an overmatched Army team; once on a fast break and once in half-court offense.  Parker is also the first woman to participate in the McDonald's All-American Slam Dunk contest and the the first to win it.  But Parker is more than slam dunks, she is a legit basketball phenom with great size, fantastic athleticism, a soft touch and great all-around skills.

As the youngest player and only collegiate on the 2006 Senior Women's US National Team, Candace has garnered immense respect with her play and inside presence, especially since Lisa Leslie pulled out because of family issues and Yolanda Griffith pulled out due to her concerns about fatigue (Sacramento was in the 2006 WNBA finals).  Still, without these two, the fact that Candace has averaged about 17 minutes per game on this team is quite a statement.  The team features legends like Sheryl Swoopes and Katie Smith, as well perennial WNBA All-stars Tina Thompson, Tamika Catchings, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and 2006 WNBA rookie-of-the-year Seimone Augustus.  "On Saturday, my brothers and I headed over to the court at this park near our house. We played a few games of 32 and one-on-one. We had a blast! I had so much fun talking junk and goofing off. My brother Anthony of course won both games of 32, but not without a struggle from Marcus and I. I wish they could live here all the time because I learn so much each time I play with them. That night three guys had the audacity to challenge us in 3-3. I swear man, we were running the Sacramento King’s offense against those three guys: back cuts, oops, and the pick and roll. We beat them all three games and I think they had a total of five points combined. My brother Anthony dunked over this dude so nasty that the people on the baseball courts went crazy. I love going to the courts and playing because the guys there do not think girls can play, but by the end I’m picked for teams first." -- Candace from her high-school players journal
