Name: Esteban Batista
Born: September 02, 1983
Origin: Montevideo, Uruguay
Languages: Spanish, English
Teams (jersey): Uruguayan National Team, Atlanta Hawks
Ibn Notes: The First ever Uruguayan player in the NBA, Batista uses his 6-10, 280lb frame to battle underneath the boards and get a lot of his points on the offensive glass. Don't be fooled though as Batista isn't a one-dimensional player, unlike a lot of physical frontcourt players, he is quite mobile and adept at taking the ball to the basket and drawing contact.
Batista was signed by the Atlanta Hawks after a strong performance during the 2005 Tournament of the Americas in which he averaged 18.6 points and 15.6 rebounds. The Uruguayan center has excelled in international competition -- averaging a strong double-doubles in the last four international tournaments, but that has yet to translate into NBA success.
