InterBasket > Player Profiles > Marco Belinelli, ItalyMarco Belinelli From " ...for Marco Belinelli, the NBA is just a matter of time. Neither of them has played with the National Team at the top level before, despite experience at the European Championships for Young Men. But after the last Euroleague season, where Bargnani was a factor in many games with Benetton Treviso and Belinelli was the best scorer of Climamio Bologna at the age of 20, these two guys seem ready to play at the highest level...

Marco Belinelli wasn't only the top scorer for Climamio Bologna. Being ranked in the top 20 scorers in Euroleague with 14 points a game is not bad for a guy who turned 20 years just last March. In addition, Belinelli finished as 12th-best three-point shooter with 45%. At 1.96 metres, he has decent size for an NBA shooting guard, especially considering his athleticism and long arms which allow him to play bigger than his height. He runs the floor well, has good overall speed and quickness and is an explosive leaper. But his favourite weapon is his outside shot thanks to his quick release, which reaches well beyond the NBA three-point line. Plus, don't underestimate his fade-away jump shot.

Ibn Notes: In the 2007 NBA summer league in Las Vegas, Marco Belinelli made quite a splash with his effortless jumpshot, his ability to break down opponents at times, and his overall maturity. Marco was easily the fan-favorite. At the tender age of 20, Marco Belinelli has already put together numbers that top those of any of Italy's greatest shooting guards at a similar age - even the likes of Antonello Riva or Carlton Myers. In the Euroleague, Belinelli was Climamio Bologna's top scorer with 14 points per game. He also finished as the 12th-best three-point shooter in Europe's top competition with 45 percent. Marco is a product of Virtus Bologna, but he went to crosstown archrivals Fortitudo when Virtus ran into tough financial times. Belinelli's start at Fortitudo was also difficult as Virtus fans considered him a traitor and Fortitudo fans considered him little more than a former Virtus player. But after three seasons with now-Climamio, Marco has become one of the most beloved players on the team. Belinelli is a lethal weapon in the open court. And when he's on fire, he can drain a number of threes in a row. He also loves his fade-away jumper - much in the style of Kobe Bryant.
