As we’ve discussed in previous scoring milestone posts, the youngest to score X amount of points doesn’t mean that they’re the fastest to that same point milestone.
The youngest to 20,000, 25,000 or 30,000 points depends on so many different factors at play. It’s not easy to get a good picture because it relies on the age the player was drafted into the league, if they were injured for any amount of time, when they declared for the NBA draft out of college much less if they even attended college. The fact that Lebron James and Kobe Bryant skipped college entirely puts them in better position to be the “youngest”.
For those that are interested in this fun, but unfair comparison, here’s the list of players that were the youngest to accomplish 25,000 regular season NBA points.
Rank | Player | Age (Years) | Months/Days |
---|---|---|---|
1 | LeBron James | 30 years | 307 days |
2 | Kobe Bryant | 31 years | 151 days |
3 | Wilt Chamberlain | 31 years | 6 months 6 days |
4 | Karl Malone | 33 years | 228 days |
5 | Carmelo Anthony | 33 years | 243 days |
6 | Kareem Abdul-Jabbar | 33 years | 249 days |
7 | Michael Jordan | 33 years | 287 days |
8 | Oscar Robertson | 34 years | 8 days |
9 | Dirk Nowitzki | 34 years | 9 months 26 days |
10 | Shaquille O’Neal | 34 years | 11 months 21 days |
11 | Dominique Wilkins | 35 years | 1 month 24 days |
12 | Moses Malone | 35 years | 7 months 29 days |
13 | Hakeem Olajuwon | 36 years | 37 days |
The Real List of “Fastest to 25,000 Points”
Again, youngest and fastest are completely different discussions. With a more data-centric approach that removes a lot of those unfair factors, the much more accurate look at talent and scoring ability is to use games played as the primary measure of “fastest.” With that, here’s the players that reached the 25,000 point plateau the fastest, according to how many games they played to reach it.
Rank | Player | Games Played | Info |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Wilt Chamberlain | 691 | more |
2 | Michael Jordan | 782 | more |
3 | Kareem Abdul-Jabbar | 889 | more |
4 | Lebron james | 915 | more |
5 | Oscar Robertson | 917 | more |
6 | Jerry West | 920 | more |
7 | Shaquille O'Neal | 958 | more |
8 | Karl Malone | 959 | more |
9 | Dominique Wilkins | 960 | more |
10 | Kobe Bryant | 989 | more |
N/A | Dirk Nowitzki | 1106 | more |
N/A | Carmelo Anthony | 1024 | more |
N/A | Hakeem Olajuwon | 1057 | more |
N/A | Paul Pierce | 1175 | more |
Surprisingly we could only find the top five for this “fastest” list. From there we had to do some research and light math to get games played info for when Oscar, West, Shaq, Malone, Dominique and Kobe hit the 25,000 point milestone. As you can tell, we’re still populating the numbers past the top ten. Stay tuned for more info.
