What is Jordan Poole’s race and ethnic background?

Jordan Poole is a point guard/shooting guard for the Golden State Warriors. Having spent a couple years in college with the Michigan Wolverines, Poole was drafted with the #28 pick in the 2019 draft by the Golden State Warriors. From there, Poole went back-and-forth between to the G-League and being called up to the NBA. Even when he was called up those first couple years, Poole was clearly not ready to make an impact.

The 2021-22 NBA season turned out to be the turning point of Jordan’s career. Not only did Poole prove to be a rotation player for one of the best teams in the league, but surprised everyone by upping his scoring average by more than 50% while shooting much better from the field, three and the free throw line — the latter in which he led the league in free throw percentage.

Not only all that, there were times when Poole carried the Warriors when they were going through a particularly rough patch of the season playing with out Steph Curry; a stretch in which Poole scored 20 or more points a game in 18 of the last 20 regular season games. Whenever Poole suited up in the midst of non-Curry stretch of games, the NBA betting odds would fluctuate wildly as Poole’s play changed up the Warriors fortune. That’s how much impact Poole was having.

With that increased exposure, NBA teams not have him near the top of their scouting reports. Not only that but fans are just as interested; some have wondered where Poole was born (Milwaukee), where he went to high school (Indiana) what is Poole’s race and whether he is biracial.

Read on below to learn a bit more about Poole, his parents and his familial background.

What is Jordan Poole’s race?

A lot of fans that are watching Poole for the first time likely immediately recognize that he’s a person of color and most likely identifies as Black. For others, they may be confused by Poole’s lighter skin and wonder whether he may be mixed with another race – some have even said that Poole has some Filipino features. Not from any sort of ulterior motive, but just curious what the 6-4 guard’s background is. For that we did a little internet research to see how Poole identifies as.

In a San Francisco Chronicle article about Poole, the guard doesn’t identify himself outright as African American, but a quote from his teammate and mentor Andre Iguodala references Poole in terms of guiding him through the trappings of being an African American professional athlete; specifically:

“The lives we live as professional athletes, as African American athletes” Iguodala said. “There’s a lot of traps, a lot of people trying to take advantage of us.”

That’s a good start and pretty straightforward, but African American can also encompass being mixed. There was not much else on Jordan in that regard, so we looked up his parents to see if that would help answer this oft-asked question.

Monet and Anthony Poole are Jordan’s Parents

Anthony Poole and Monet Poole are Jordan’s father and mother respectively. We were able to find a couple pictures of the married couple from when Jordan signed with the Michigan Wolverines and a couple years later when he was presented with his Golden State Warriors jersey during NBA media day. Take a look

Look at how young Jordan looks in the photo above. Looking at these images, it looks as if Jordan’s father and mother (and sister Jaiden) are Black. If that’s the case then Jordan Poole would also identify as Black as far as race and background is concerned.

Again, not that it’s a big deal, but it is something internet users and NBA fans are interested in – especially as Poole becomes a bigger and bigger name in the league — so we’re just providing information for them to make their own decisions. The same way we did with his Splash Brother (Splash Siblings) Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
