Truly Unstoppable: Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Luka Doncic

The 2022-23 NBA season has been one of crazy offensive performances. It’s not uncommon to see a score of 107-102… at the end of the third quarter. We can spend the next week talking about the reasons why, but whatever your belief is, this season has allowed the individual talent of NBA players to really shine. And for those players that were indefensible before, have become simply unstoppable this season. There’s a lot of ways to define what is truly unstoppable from a basketball perspective, but we’ll look at the players that have the least offensive weaknesses.

Truly Unstoppable 2022-23

These superstar scorers have a combination of shooting, skills, athleticism, and basketball IQ that make them nearly impossible to defend in today’s NBA. There are 15 players averaging 25 points or more so there’s no shortage of incredible bucket getters, but there are truly only five players that are truly unstoppable; Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, and Nikola Jokic.

Joel Embiid Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, the dominant big man has been a force to be reckoned with this season. Embiid’s size, strength, and ability to hit the midrange shot makes him the most indefensible matchup. He is an exceptional high post scorer, with the ability to attack the rim or rise up for a feathery jumpshot. There’s a reason the Cameroonian big man is leading the league in scoring 33.3 and NBA’s leading candidate for MVP according  to various popular sportsbooks where you can sign up UK betting promotions

Nikola Jokic The Denver Nuggets’ versatile big man, is another player who is nearly impossible to defend when he decides he wants to score. Jokic’s combination of size, strength, a set shot, and passing ability; makes him the league’s most-unique talent. Jokic is an efficient post scorer, with the ability to score with both hands and a nearly unreal soft touch around the rim. But what makes Jokic so hard to stop is that you cannot speed him up; the 7-0 Serbian gets where he wants to when he wants to… eventually. And because Jokic is also an exceptional passer, with the ability to find his teammates for easy baskets, it’s difficult to double team him.

Steph Curry The Golden State Warriors’ legend, has revolutionized the game with his long-range shooting ability. But it’s just not Curry’s quick release and accuracy from beyond the arc make him a constant threat to score, it’s his ability to relocate when his defender thinks they’ve done their job. Curry couples the threat of the three with an excellent basketball IQ; understanding defender’s fear of his taking a three and using that against them. Curry’s handles, quickness, and layup package around the rim makes him an unstoppable all-around scorer.

Luka Doncic The young Slovenian phenom has quickly become one of the league’s most dominant offensive players. Doncic’s combination of bulk, change of speed, and skill make him a nightmare for defenders. He is an exceptional ball-handler for his size and knows how to use this body to make up for his lack of vertical. Doncic isn’t just a threat on the perimeter, but can also take defenders off the dribble and post up quicker, slighter defenders. Doncic has the league’s second-highest usage rate; that means he has the most opportunity to utilize his diverse set of offensive moves that allow him to get to the basket or shoot from beyond the arc.

Kevin Durant The Phoenix Suns superstar is another player who is nearly impossible to defend. Listed at 6’10”, Durant has the size to shoot over smaller defenders, but he also has the quickness to blow by bigger defenders. That in a nutshell defines Durant offensive prowess. Durant’s shooting ability is unparalleled, as he can hit shots from anywhere on the court, but you’ll find that he thrives in the midrange. In fact, Durant has the three highest midrange shooting percentages in the last 25 NBA seasons. KD is a true master of his craft.

With all due respect to Giannis Antetoumpko, Kyrie Irving, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, we think that these five players are the league’s most unstoppable players. Even the weaknesses they may have on the offensive end are outweighed by their masterful combinations of size, speed, skill, shooting, athleticism, and basketball IQ that make them near unstoppable when they set their minds to it.
