Mo Williams won’t be heading to South Beach to join his former teammate LeBron James. Instead, Williams is staying on the West Coast, as he has decided to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers. Williams and the Blazers agreed to a two-year deal worth nearly $6 million on Wednesday.
Williams, who will be playing on his fifth team, last played for the Utah Jazz. Last season, he averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 assists per game. For his career, he is averaging nearly 14 points and five assists per game.
There was a lot of talk that the Miami Heat were interested in signing the veteran point guard. But the Heat weren’t offering as much money as the Blazers. The Memphis Grizzlies were also said to have been interested in signing Williams.
In Portland, Williams will likely be the back up for rising star and reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard.
