Reggie Miller sucks: Why Reggie Miller is the NBA’s (and TNT’s) worst broadcaster and game analyst

There is nothing worse than looking forward to a nationally-televised NBA game on TNT, finally sitting down ready to enjoy the game and then realizing that Reggie Miller is one of the game analyst.

Those NBA fans that enjoy sitting back and enjoying the the games on TNT, and maybe take advantage of any available betting promotions, prefer a game analyst that actually offers insight, is genuinely excited by the play, and enhances the game — none of which Miller offers.

We’re not sure what the people at TNT are thinking as there doesn’t seem to very many fans that enjoy Reggie’s commentary. The fact that Reggie has his own local show on channel 13 (WTHR) when he was in Indiana surely helped his case.

Miller started with TNT in 2005

After Reggie Miller retired the league in 2005, he immediately moved into the broadcasting; signing on with TNT to split time in-studio with the TNT crew and as a game analyst. He would remain in that split role for a couple years, when in 2007 the Boston Celtics came calling.

At age 42, Reggie Miller considered coming out of retirement for another shot at an NBA championship. He did three weeks of work outs with the Celtics before the 2007-08 season and when that didn’t pan out, Miller hung up his shoes for good.

“(the workouts) wasn’t enough time for me to shock my body,” said Miller, who turned 42 before that season. “As an NBA player, you need more than a week. I probably could have played, but to me that would have been stealing if I was going to play there at 70%. I wanted to be 95, 100%for the Celtics.”

Then why do we listeners only get 12%.

After that, TNT moved him into the booth alongside the legendary Marv Albert.

“For so many years, he was the voice of my career and so many of my big games against the Knicks and the Bulls,” Miller told The AP at he time. “To be working side-by-side with him – I’m very humbled and very honored because a lot of people don’t get put in this position.”

(This is why) Reg-gie sucks! Reg-gie sucks!

When he played in the league, it wasn’t unusual for Miller to hear New York fans chant “Reg-gie sucks!” but now it’s just not the New York metropolitan area. NBA fans are chanting how much he sucks across the internet.

Fans are so tired of Reggie that USA Today has taken up the case, they fume about him on reddit threads, and even started a Change.org petition to terminate him. Not to mention hundreds of tweets. Some of which we’ve embedded below.

Again, I’m honestly not sure what the honchos at TNT see in Miller. His voice feels like he’s a child going through puberty trying to talk with a mouthful of rocks. And his voice only gets exponentially worse when he feigns any emotion.

After a big play or exciting dunk, Reggie’s attempts at emotion and excitement clearly comes off as fake, insincere with two handfuls of him telling himself “This is what a announcer sounds like.”

When you’re able to get past his voice and actually hear what’s he’s saying, it’s often full of mistakes; from saying the player’s names wrong to mixing up what teams are playing to just getting calls wrong.

It’s clear Miller has done very little prep work. It’s maddening considering that TNT probably provides him with whatever stats and facts he needs to know.

We wouldn’t know that Reggie was a player before because he gives very little detail as to what actually happens on the bench, on the court or give insight into how NBA players actually feel.

As a former NBA player that has seen success in the league, why does Miller feel like he’s still trying to sit at the cool table? When he converses with the Emmy-winning TNT crew of Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson, it’s always so completely awkward. It’s clear he doesn’t mesh or vibe with that team.

Let’s be honest, Miller is a dork and corny as hell, and he’s trying not to be. For someone that had a TV show in Indiana and been at the job for 15 years, it’s mind-boggling how much he hasn’t improved.

Confidence is one thing. Arrogance is another. What makes all of that even worse is that he says everything with a smug entitlement and confidence that makes him insufferable. Even with the excitement of the league re-starting, fans were still taking to Twitter to voice their displeasure with Miller.

Are you listening TNT because we’re not willing to listen to Reggie Miller (or Chris Webber) anymore.
