The 21 WNBA Players with Most Rebounds All-Time, Highest Rebounding Average

Throughout the league’s nearly three decades of existence, the WNBA has seen dozens of basketball legends come through the league. We’re seeing a couple rookies make the all-star team this season with Catilin Clark and Angel Reese. We all know about Clark, but we don’t hear about Reese’s contributions nearly as much.

Despite being somewhat standing undersized at 6’3, Reese is being tossed around like most rookies, but that doesn’t deter her. From a rebounding perspective. she is dominating the paint. With 15 consecutive double-doubles and leading the league in rebounding, Angel is a future superstar in the making as she joins the pantheon of players who have demonstrated dominance on the boards throughout their careers.

WNBA Players with Most Rebounds All-Time

When it comes to total rebounds, the only WNBA player that has surpassed 4,000 rebounds in her career is Sylvia Fowles. Sweet Syl as she’s known stands out as the undisputed leader, having accumulated 4,006 career rebounds before she retired after the 2022 season. Even in her last few years in the league, it was clear that Fowles strength in the paint was still formidable; averaging 9.8 and 10.1 rebounds in her final two seasons.

As you can tell, we love Sylvia Fowles. She is the WNBA’s leader in total rebounds as you can see from the list of players that have pulled down the most rebounds in their WNBA career (players that are active are in all caps).

11 NNEKA OGWUMIKE 373 2812

Following Fowles closely is Tina Charles, whose powerful presence in the post has helped her gather over 3,800 rebounds and is still active. If Charles suits up for her 14th full season, she’ll take over Fowles’s #1s spot on the WNBA rebounding list. The recently-retired Candace Parker is third all-time when it comes to total rebounds; a handful of games short of 3,500 rebounds.

Right below Parker are legends Rebekkah Brunson and Tamika Catchings. They each amassed over 3,300 and 3,000 rebounds respectively. Lisa Leslie, the first superstar frontcourt player of the WNBA secured over 3,000 rebounds in her illustrious career, solidifying her legacy as one of the WNBA’s greatest.  WNBA All-Star Nneka Ogwumike and Tammy Sutton-Brown have over 2,500 rebounds, showcasing their relentless effort and consistency over the years.

WNBA Players with Highest RPG in One Season

In addition to these all-time greats, several players have had standout seasons with remarkable rebounds per game (RPG) averages. On top of the list is Fowles who dominated the boards in multiple seasons, averaging 11.88 RPG in 2018 which is the most rebounds per game in one season. After the record comes Jonquel Jones’ 2017 season where she averaged a double double of 15.4 points and 15.85 rebounds which was just a smidge under Fowle’s record.

If Reese can hold up for the latter half of her rookie season, she will have the highest rebounds per game average in WNBA history. As of this post, she is averaging around 12 rebounds per game.

Tina Charles averaged 11.7 RPG in her rookie season (2010) demonstrating her rebounding powers from the start. Chamique Holdsclaw set a high standard in 2003 with an impressive 11.6 RPG which held the record until Charles broke it in 2010. The rest of the list is a who’s who of WNBA rebounding legends including Yolanda Griffith, Cheryl Ford, and Natalie Williams.
