2017 Women’s NCAA Tournament Bracket

Much like the last several years, it’s all about the UConn Lady Huskies. Seeded #1  in their region again; they’ll go up against 16-seeded Albany. UConn is vying for their fifth consecutive championship after Breanna Stewart spent her entire four-year college career celebrating and smiling at the end of the championship game. UConn is going in as the favorite, but don’t underestimate the anyone-can-beat-anyone competition in women’s basketball, so says Sports Illustrated in their bracket preview:

While women’s basketball critics complain about Connecticut’s dominance (the undefeated Huskies are favored to win their fifth consecutive title), Kieger believes parity is growing every year. “Yes, UConn is the top dog right now,” she said. ‘But the fact that teams (seeded overall) #2–30 could beat each other on any night, people don’t give that enough attention.’

The other number one seeds in the tournament aren’t invulnerable either. Notre Dame, Baylor and South Carolina hope to make it through their respective rounds and tough path for a shot at what is a assumed would be a semi-finals or championship match vs. University of Connecticut. But March Madness isn’t predictable as per the name, this could be the year that UConn falters before then. The last time UConn wasn’t in the Final Four was ten years ago; in the 2007 Elite Eight when #3 LSU smashed them 73-50 — UConn was the #1 seed then too.

As it’s been with the last four tournaments — it won’t be easy even if Stewart isn’t around anymore. Connecticut has a two-headed monster in Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier both averaged over 20 points during the regular season.
