Canada Shocks Argentina as Preparations Continue

Preparation for Eurobasket and the Tournament of the Americas continued as National Teams from all over the world competed in friendly matches and regional cups.

In the Tuto Marchand Continental Cup, Brazil captured the cup by defeating the previously-unbeaten Canadian National Team. Marcos Viera scored 14 points for Brazil, and JP Batista and Marcelo Machado each contributed 12 points apiece.

The day before, Croatian-league MVP Carl English hit four three-pointers and scored 30 points to lead Canada over heavily-favored Argentina 84-78. The win moved Canada into the Cup’s final. The other game saw Brazil breezing by Puerto Rico 79-67, led by Tiago Splitter’s 24 points.

Germany defeated China again, this time in a closer match, 76-71. Wang Zhizhi and Yi Jianlian (23 points including a nice spin baseline two-handed dunk) were the main guns with Yao Ming sitting the game out. And as expected, Dirk Nowitzki led the Germans with 30pts.
