Pic: Jose Juan Barea fouled hard by Andrew Bynum

In the frustration of a 36-point loss in a Game 4 blowout, Los Angeles Laker’s center Andrew Bynum decided that he wouldn’t leave the playoffs with any class or professionalism.

The 7-0 Bynum saw a familiar sight, already aware that his defending champions Los Angeles Lakers would be swept out of the NBA playoffs, Bynum took the opportunity to send a message – a message of frustration with his team.

Though he was frustrated with how HIS team performed, Bynum decided to take it out on his opponent – and a much smaller one at that.

The 6-0 Jose Juan Barea drove down the lane, as he did throughout the series, and as he released a scooping layup, Bynum sideswiped the Puerto Rican guard. The momentum of his powerful elbow collided with Barea mid-flight, sending the (relatively) diminutive Barea crashing to the floor.

Bynum knew he was ejected. Without even looking to see if Barea was hurt, he took off his jersey and walked straight to the locker room.

Two days after the hard foul, the NBA announced that Bynum would be suspended for five games the following season. The league also fine the 23-year old $25,000, which means the suspension will cost Bynum more than $700,000 in total.
