What is the Most Three Pointers Made by Teammates in One NBA Game?

Over the past two decades, the NBA has undergone a dramatic shift in playing style, with the three-pointer taking center stage. Gone are the days of dominant post-play and mid-range jumpers; today, teams prioritize spacing, ball movement, and volume three-point shooting. We automatically think of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, and based on the topic of this article: Zach LaVine. Specifically, four-time NBA champions Golden State Warriors — with Curry and Thompson — have influenced teams to take more threes than ever before.

With this shift, it’s no surprise that records for three-pointers are constantly being rewritten. The combination of elite shooters and the NBA’s increased pace has led to historic performances by teammates in the same game.

Most Three Pointers Made By Teammates in a Game

When we think about three-point records in the NBA, the conversation usually revolves around individual performances whether it’s Steph Curry’s 13 threes in a game, Klay Thompson’s record-breaking 14 threes, or Damian Lillard’s logo threes. But what often gets overlooked is the combined shooting brilliance of teammates in a single game. While a single player’s hot hand is always a spectacle, there have been nights when two (or even three) players on the same team have lit up the scoreboard from beyond the arc, rewriting history together. In the era of three point shots, here’s some of the most impressive games where teammates combined for record-breaking three-point performances, proving that sometimes, greatness is even better when shared.

Pritchard and White Set NBA, Celtics Record

On a random Wednesday night game in early March, Payton Pritchard and Derrick White made league and Boston Celtics history with a record-breaking performance against the Portland Trail Blazers, becoming the first teammates in franchise history to each score at least 40 points in the same game. Pritchard erupted for a career-high 43 points off the bench, shooting 10-of-16 from three-point range, while White added 41 points, sinking nine threes of his own. Their combined 19 three-pointers set a new NBA record for the most by a duo in a single game.

No Splash Brothers?

While the Golden State Warriors are well-represented on the above list, most are surprised that Steph and Klay aren’t at the top of the list. In fact, the first time Golden State appears on the list of most threes by teammates, Curry isn’t even part of the equation. You see when Klay Thompson set a new NBA record with 14 three-pointers in a dominant 149-124 Warriors win over the Bulls on October 29, 2018, Alfonzo McKinnie contributed the most made threes after Klay with four threes, bringing their combined total to 18 (Steph had just two threes that game).

Is Coby White and Zach LaVine the eastern version of the Splash Brothers? We say that because a year after Klay lit those same Bulls up for 14 threes, LaVine erupted for 49 points, including 13 three-pointers, to lead the Bulls to a thrilling 116-115 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on November 23, 2019. Coby White adding four more threes for to total 17 threes between the Chicago teammates. And that’s not the only time that LaVine and White lit it up from distance; making history again by each hitting at least eight threes in the same game, combining for 17 total in a 129-116 win against the New Orleans Pelicans, cementing their place as one of the league’s deadliest backcourt shooting duos.
