The Philippines hopes they can repeat their 1973 title, the last time the nation hosted the qualifier for the FIBA World Championships of Basketball. And the entire pacific island is watching their home team, Smart-Gilas, take on the likes of Asian basketball giants China and Iran. The pressure on the 12 men must be suffocating because as the team goes, so does the country’s mood.
