The Houston Rockets started out hot against the Golden State Warriors and rode that wave to an NBA-tying 23 three pointers.
The mark that tied the NBA all-time record held by the Orlando Magic, who recorded 23 three-pointers against the Sacramento Kings on January 13, 2009.
With five minutes remaining in the game, Patrick Beverly drove and dished to 7-0 rookie Donatas Motiejūnas, the 22-year old hit the Rocket’s 23rd three point shot from the corner three to tie the NBA all-time mark. Check out the video of all 23 makes:
As the game wore on, the Golden State Warriors were instructed by their coach Mark Jackson to foul – not allowing Houston’s bench players to hit the 24th and record-breaking three.
Jeremy Lin, who came in shooting 29% from the line, hit five threes. James Harden and Chandler Parsons each had four threes, while Marcus Morris added three threes. The two teams will meet up again next week, February 12, in Oakland.
The team mark doesn’t even come close to the most threes ever, when including individual records around the world. Zdenko Babić and Josip Mihaljevic both reportedly hit 28 threes in one game. Check out the basketball world record for most threes by an individual and the inventor of the three point shot.
