So, the final 2014 AP Men’s basketball rankings have been released for a few weeks now; however, it is worth taking a quick look at which teams have made the Sweet 16 and which haven’t that were included in the rankings.
Of note, overall #2 Wichita State was defeated by the “unranked” Kentucky Wildcats (preseason 2013-14 #1) in the round of 32, Duke (#8 end of season ) was upset, and #10 Kansas was upset. Also missing from the Sweet 16 for this year’s March Madness include #14 Syracuse, #15 Cincinnati, #16 Creighton, #17 New Mexico, #18 UCONN, and #19 North Carolina to round out the top 20.
Many pundits believe that although Louisville earned a #5 AP ranking by the end of the year, perhaps their #4 seed was deserved after the team’s relatively sub-par play in the opening rounds of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. We will all see how that unfolds once the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 get underway here in the coming days. Who is your favorite to win the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at this point?
