euroleague-playoffs

There were no big surprises in the last day of the Top 16 phase in the Euroleague. Galatasaray got the highly needed win on home court against one of the teams that were already disqualified Partizan. Real Madrid lost the first spot to CSKA Moscow after a tough loss in Zalgiris in a record setting night for Justin Dentmon, but that didn’t came as a big surprise for Euroleague analysts because in this way the Spanish side chose who will they face in the playoffs. In the most unimportant game of the night Emporio Armani lost to Unicaja Malaga away from home.

Zalgiris Kaunas 87-80 Real Madrid

Real Madrid lost to Olympiacos in the Final last year. The Greek side has a completely different squad this year with the absence of Pero Antic, Linas Kleiza and Kyle Hines. That’s one of the reasons why Real Madrid would like to face Olympiacos as early in the playoffs. They don’t want to give CSKA the chance to take care of the team that ended their Championship run last year. This season Real looks stronger than ever and has realistic chances of winning the playoff series against Olympiacos, which will surely feel good.

In tonight game against Zalgiris none of Real Madrid players actually give 100% and that’s why the Lithuanian side took the chance to finish their Euroleague campaign with a blast. It was also a record night for their sharp shooter Justin Dentmon who broke the record for most three pointers in a single season (74) and had the second best scoring performance in the Euroleague this season finishing with 34 points.

Galatasaray Liv Hospital 64-55 Partizan Belgrade

After a dreadful injury streak for Galatasaray at the beginning of the Top 16 phase they succeeded to complete one of the most impressive comebacks in the history of the competition and advance to the playoffs. They needed only a win against Partizan who lost all of their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. The goal was accomplished and Galatasaray brought joy to the faces of over 11.000 fans present at the arena. This is their first playoff appearance in team history.

Unicaja Malaga 95-85 Emporio Armani

Game that didn’t decide nothing and only allowed the Spaniards to say goodbye to the Euroleague for this season in a winning manner. They played team basketball and five of their players finished the game scoring in double figures. Keith Langford had a good night for the Italian side Emporio Armani and finished with 22 points. Kuzminskas Mindaugas just missed the double double finishing the game with 13 points and 9 rebounds, but he had a game high Player Index Rating.
