CSKA Moscow Destroys Panathinaikos, Qualifies For Euroleague Final Four

CSKA Moscow showcased their skills against Panathinaikos this afternoon and qualified to the Euroleague Final Four. They just crushed the Greek side which looked pretty tired from the five game series. Well the Russians were full of energy especially on the defensive end where they limited Panathinaikos to only 44 points. The Greens from Athens didn’t manage to score more than 12 points in none of the four quarters. CSKA finished the game with 74 points on 56% shooting from the floor. How good was their defense in this one shows the fact that they forced Pana to make 12 turnovers and blocked their shots 8 times.

Sasha Kaun over James Gist

In a great team effort Victor Khryapa and Sasha Kaun were the only to players to score in double figures for the home side. Kaun was the best player on the floor finishing the game with 18 points, 9 rebounds and two blocks with 78% realization from the floor. Khryapa had an all around performance with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and three blocked shots. Good news for CSKA is that their starting playmaker Milos Teodosic is back after he made a long break recovering from an injury. It was previously stated that he could miss the Euroleague Final Four, but he played nearly 15 minutes today managing to score 7 points and dish 3 assists.

The whole Panathinaikos side had an awful game. Only James Gist managed to score in double figures finishing the game with 11 points. The leader of the away side Dimitris Diamantidis ended the game with 0 points and 2 turnovers, which only shows that he is going into a phase of his career when he needs better role players on his team. Now Panathinaikos can focus their strengths on the home competition where they hold the first place with 2 more games from the regular season, heading to the playoffs.

CSKA Moscow will face Maccabi Electra in the Euroleague Final Four. The game will be played on May 16th. Barcelona, the first team that qualified for the Final Four, still awaits its opponent. They are waiting for the outcome of the fifth game between Real Madrid and Olympiacos, a rematch from last years’ Finals.
