Erazem Lorbek, the 6-10 Slovenian center for CSKA Moscow has been named Euroleague Basketball’s MVP for the months of March and April.
The 25-year old former Rising Star Trophy winner led CSKA in either scoring, index rating or both in each of their games, save one, in helping the defending Euroleague champions to a 5-0 record in the playoffs thus far, and the only club to remain undefeated.
His MVP honor was no doubt anchored by his Game 2 performance against Paritzan Belgrade in the Euroleague quarterfinals. In Game 2, Lorbek scored 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting plus 7 rebounds as CSKA defeated Partizan 77-50 which led to his career-high 33 performance index rating. And earned that week’s MVP honor.
In five games he played during March and April, Lorbek averaged 16 points on 61.9% two-point shooting and 5 rebounds as CSKA was the first team to advance to the 2009 Final Four.
Erazem Lorbek played for the Michigan State Spartans in 2002-03 season. As a Freshman Lorbek averaged 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He would only complete one season in East Lansing, Lorbek chose to return to Europe, signing a deal with Fortitudo Bologna of the Italian league, where he played from 2003 to 2006. His NBA rights are held by the Indiana Pacers, whom drafted the power forward in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.
