Clippers down Lakers 111-106 on Christmas, here’s out updated NBA Title and MVP picks

For most of the decade, we’ve watched in a never-ending battle between LeBron James and Warriors and it’s great to see so many teams in both conferences gunning for the NBA championship.

Even though the Milwaukee Bucks have the best record in the league, the Sixers and Celtics look much-improved this season, the Westbrook-Harden duo seems to be working in Houston, and Toronto and the Miami Heat are surprising, it seems as if the NBA champion title chances are highest with one of the Los Angeles franchises.

Christmas Day Repercussions

With their respective superstar tandems and supporting cast, the two powerhouse teams met up on Christmas day and didn’t disappoint with Kawhi Leonard  and the Los Angeles Clippers mounting a comeback and defeating their in-town rivals 111-106 in what could be a developing L.A. rivalry.

With the X-mas day slate completed, NBA picks and parlays have been updated. Stunning free agent signings can change the league landscape and set up a new super team that will dominate for years. The Golden State Warriors may have ruled the league in the past 5 seasons, but after Durant decided to team up with Kyrie Irving in New Jersey, bookies have found their new sweethearts. As a result, the Warriors are not anywhere near the top of the pile of betting favorites – the throne belongs to a Lebron James team once again.

Biggest NBA Title Favorites Post-Christmas

If you’ve been following this year’s exciting season, you probably have an idea of the biggest trophy favorites. The last time we wrote about this, Leonard and the Clippers were on top prior to donning their Christmas jerseys, and bookies haven’t changed their minds about the Clippers’ chances since.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are in front of everyone else at +300, dumping reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the league-leading Bucks behind (Milwaukee is available @ +550).

Up next are the 76ers and Rockets at +700 and +750 respectively and they close out the list of biggest favorites to lift the trophy in June (or earlier). Surprisingly, the Dallas Mavericks are not among the biggest sportsbook favorites. Led by the brilliant Luka Doncic whose name already comes up in MVP talk, the Mavericks are currently flying in the middle with odds of +5000 they share with the likes of Brooklyn and Indiana.

Right above them are the Miami Heat who have unexpectedly played great and currently occupy the third playoff spot in the East. Jimmy Butler’s leadership has reinvigorated the team with emerging stars Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro taking all the plaudits.

That shouldn’t be a surprise with Erik Spoelstra at the helm. Just ask the legendary Stan Van Gundy, who believes his colleague and friend is the best coach in the NBA. He’s surely among the top ones, and this season is proof enough that he can get it done without a trio of stars. If you want to bet on a dark horse, the Miami Heat definitely qualifies as one.

Who’ll Win the MVP Race?

The 2019-20 NBA MVP odds has a long list of players that will be taken into consideration. Ultimately, however, only one will get the prize. It’s hard to pick a winner from that many players having an MVP-calibre season. The Lakers duo of Lebron James and Anthony Davis are all evened out in the MVP race at +800, but the top begins to reigning MVP Antetokounmpo.

The Greek Freak leads the list at +100, but surprisingly, he has strong competition in Luka Doncic who’s available at +400. NBA experts believe that these two players will fight for the prestigious award, with James Harden looming over both at +450.

Many believe that Harden, who leads the league in points and produces stellar displays night-in and night-out, should have gotten the MVP award last year. It ultimately went in the hands of Milwaukee’s star, but if you ask Houston fans, their own star deserves it this year. At +450, James Harden looks like a great pick unless you look at Lebron. Lebron’s always a favorite for the MVP award and if he continues in this form (and he never stops), he’s another excellent pick at +800.
