Charlotte Hornets set multiple records as they swarm the Indiana Pacers 158-126

According to the latest episode of ALL THE SMOKE, the Charlotte Hornets are one of the most fun teams to watch and the Hornets made that take from Matt Barnes, Stephen Jackson and Kendrick Perkins look great last night. The Hornets may have been listening to the podcast as they set several franchise records in a 158-126 demolition of the Indiana Pacers.

Let’s first talk about individual performances. When we talk about the Hornets, the odds would definitely not have had Kelly Oubre Jr. shooting 10-15 from behind the arc on his way to a new career-high with 39 points.

A better bet would have been LaMelo Ball recording 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists for his fourth triple double of the season. Miles Bridges added 22 points and Terry Rozier had 20 points making one of the rare instances when four players from the same team scored 20 or more points. Check out some of the highlights from the game.

The Hornets as a team? They matched a season-high in the game by hitting 24 three-pointers again after setting the franchise record with twenty-four threes earlier in the month. This was on their way to scoring the most points in a game in franchise history (158). They were on their way to that record by scoring a team-record 87 points by halftime.

Oubre’s performance not only set individual highs, but also some Franchise records for most three-pointers by a Charlotte Hornets player (10) and the most points by a Charlotte Hornets player off the bench (39). Ball’s four triple doubles this season already is a record by any Charlotte Hornets player in one season.

The Hornets may not have done any of this with Gordon Hayward who left the team right before the game after being placed in the NBA’s Health and Safety Protocols. Nothing against Hayward, but had he been in the lineup, Oubre would not have gotten so many minutes and allowed to shine.

The 158 points is the highest point total in the NBA.

On the other side, the Pacers were without Domantas Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner and TJ Warren yet still  had eight players score in double figures. The Pacers were led by Goga Bitadze and Isaiah Jackson’s 17 points while Lance Stephenson continues to impress with 14 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds.

The Pacers set a franchise record for most points allowed in a game. You might remember that the Pacers were on the other side of a franchise record last season when they scored 152 points in a 57 blowout win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
