The San Antonio Spurs have built a system under the guidance of head coach Gregg Popovich, proving to be effective even two decades later. The core players in his system are well over their thirties and coach Pop will need to find the appropriate replacements over the next couple of seasons. Tim Duncan (37), Manu Ginobili (36) and Tony Parker (32) all seem in good shape, but they have only one or two years left as a group before one of them retires (it’s hard to believe to see Parker go first).

Duncan is probably one of the best, if not the best, power forwards that ever played the game and its hard to find a replacement for him without a lottery pick. Still, Pop brought some young talent last year in the likes of Kyle Anderson who’s a very intelligent big man with a sweet touch from mid range.
It’s almost certain that there will be some point guard on draft night that will have a similar set of skills and working ethic like Tony Parker, remember that Parker didn’t have a jump shot when he entered the league, but the real question is who will replace Manu Ginobili and all of the competitiveness that he brings to the table.
There’s high probability that the San Antonio organization will try to create one more second round draft tale like they did with Manu by drafting Pat Connaughton in the second round. The 22 guard/forward from Notre Dame chose basketball in front of baseball (where he ranks as one of the top prospects in the country) and decided to declare himself eligible for the 2015 draft.
Connaughton is a feisty and competitive young talent with excellent athletic set of skills. Proof of that is his pre-draft combine workout where he recorded a 44 inch vertical, which is tied for the second best measurement in the history of the NBA.

If you’re still not convinced that this kid is physical all the way, check out his dunk on Jabari Parker.
