Lin, Asik Each Drop 20 in Rockets’ Win Over Bulls

The surging Houston Rockets picked up their sixth win in their last seven games Christmas night defeating the Chicago Bulls 120-97. It was a merry Christmas for all the Rockets, but especially Omer Asik, who scored 20 points and collected 18 rebounds in his first trip to Chicago since joining the Rockets this offseason.

“Omer is a big-time player in the middle,” Houston coach Kevin McHale said according to “Tonight he was blocking shots, getting rebounds and outletting the ball for us. He’s got a big body and sets wide picks for us. This was a very good game for him.”

The Rockets also received healthy production from James Harden and Jeremy Lin, who scored 26 and 20 points respectively. Lin also dished out 11 assists and ignited the offense in the second quarter, scoring 12 of his points while leading the team to a 58-41 halftime advantage.

It’s been a whirlwind year for Lin that has come full circle. He was released almost exactly one year ago by the Rockets on Christmas Eve, but this year was able to spend the holiday celebrating a win and his position with the team rather than wondering if his short NBA career was over.

“I knew it was exactly a year ago on this day I got cut,” said Lin according to Focus Taiwan. “It’s only been a year, man. It’s crazy. It’s ridiculous. It’s so different now. I’m so blessed to he here. A year ago I thought this could be it for me.”

With the offseason acquisitions of Lin, Asik and Harden, the Rockets have become the league’s leading scoring team this season, averaging more than 105 points per game. Their 120 on Christmas was the most Chicago has allowed in a game all season.

Houston will look to stay hot tonight in Minnesota as their road trip pushes on.
